Amy's Story

Hi everyone! Since those old high school days, I went to work full-time, sweating away my fingers typing! At my third secretarial job, I met my husband of almost 26 years, who would've thought! Soon, thereafter, our son, Michael was born (25 years old). When Michael was about two I developed RA (still have it, unfortunately) and 7 years later, our daughter Michelle was born (she just turned 18!) Lastly, but certainly not the least, our little miracle Maria was born 8 years later (she'll be 10 soon). Maria will soon be needing a kidney transplant. Despite all the challenges she has endured, she is ever-smiling, always happy and lives life to the fullest. Her father will be her living donor. Think about organ donation, it could save someone's life! Maria just recently returned from a wonderful Make a Wish Foundation trip of a lifetime to Disneyworld, Seaworld and the Nickelodeon hotel in Orlando! Maria had a wonderful time getting hugs from all her favorite characters! Michelle will be attending Boston Unviersity as a freshmen this Fall majoring in Archaeology. She has always worked hard and I know will continue to achieve her dreams. Michael is a Catering Manager. He works hard and does an outstanding job. He's Maria's Godfather and is a really fine and caring young man. As you can see, my life has certainly revolved around my children and in retrospect, I don't think I would have wanted it any other way. They are truly wonderful! I may not have become the Artist I dreamed of becoming, instead I became a chef, maid, chauffer, nurse, doctor, teacher, ebayer and a billion other little things, that add up to one word - MOM. Take care. Hope to hear from some of you! Update: On December 8th, my husband, Joe, suffered a ruptured brain aneursym. He survived and can walk and talk, but suffers from severe fatigue. He is currently on disabiity from work ...Expand for more
until his aneursym is rechecked in July. We are very lucky he is alive and relatively well. Maria will most likely be having a pre-emptive kidney transplant within a few months as her kidney condition is worsening. Her father can no longer donate his kidney, so a wonderful 1st cousin to Joe, is going to if she passes all the physical tests. To top it all off, I tripped and fell and broke my ankle a month ago. I'm still in a cast, but hopefully, will be freed in a few weeks. Life is always challenging, yet rewarding despite all the challenges. Prayers are always greatly appreciated. A wonderful priest friend, told me recently, "Sometimes God calms the storm and sometimes God lets the storm rage and calms the child." Think about organ donation, it could save a child's life! July 2009 - update: Maria has been approved for her kidney transplant and her living donor has been approved also! However, she has to endure scoliosis surgery before her transplant. Due to the high volume of surgeries they do at Children's, she will most likely be scheduled for it in early Fall. As soon as she has recovered from that surgery, they will do her transplant. Joe is still recovering, but is doing better. He had a repeat angiogram, because his headaches were increasing at the site of the aneursym. It looked ok and he has another one scheduled in 3 months. Michelle made the Dean's list for the Spring Semester in the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University! I'm very proud of her as usual! Michael will be driving us to the Mystic Aquarium soon to have a fun family day before Maria's surgeries. I think she will love it! Due to Maria's upcoming surgeries and timing, I may not be able to attend the 30th reunion. I'll miss everyone if I'm not there, but perhaps everyone can keep Maria in their thoughts and prayers. Thank you! Hope life has treated you well. Amy
