Amy's Story

Life After graduating from high school, I attended Butler University where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. College was amazing, I was chosen to be in the top two choral groups as a sophomore, then as a junior I was chosen to be the lead in an operetta, "The Tender Land" by Aaron Copeland. It was an experience I will never forget. After searching two years for a teaching job in and around Indianapolis, I finally was given a job as choir director at Westfield High School and Middle School. After three years of teaching part time in both buildings, the programs grew enough to necessitate me to choose which age I preferred to teach. I chose middle school! (I know-I'm half crazy!) I am still teaching there and looking at the possibility of moving to elementary in the future. In 1993 I got married to Chuck Beasley, whom I met while playing softball. He is an Implementation Manager for a company named IST. I also acquired two stepchildren, Haylee and Jeremy. Haylee is now a senior in high school and Jeremy is a junior. In 1999, the coach of my coed softball team called me and told me that I had been named the Indiana Female Player of the Year for the National Softball Association! I was ecstatic! I didn't even know there was such a thing! In 2001, on September 7th, I had a baby girl named Savannah who was born 12 weeks early by emergency C-Section. September 11th came and went, and in the midst of the whole country being devastated, ou...Expand for more
r whole family was devastated when my daughter got sepsis while in the NICU and died. Obviously it was by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me. And it still hurts after all of this time-going on 6 years. We finally got back to our normal life and I lost 30 pounds-all of the baby weight and then some! I continued to play softball and loved every minute of it. In 1993 I gave birth to Tanner, who was 11 weeks early, but he was a scrapper and is a completely normal and healthy 4 year old. He is obviously the light of my life and I couldn't believe how much I could love someone until he was born! I retired from playing softball at the end of the season in 2005 and was named player of the year again. I cried and realized that "softball has been very good to me." It was a large part of my life for so long that I was concerned that I might not know what to do with myself. Needless to say, with a 4 year old, there is plenty to do. Last December, 2006, my Dad had a severe stroke. After being in and out of the hospital several times for many different reasons, he passed away at the age of 62. My brother and I both miss Dad very much-he was too young! My mother has been doing great after working for the Indiana State Teacher's Association for many years-she is now retired. My brother, Tim, is a manager at an engineering firm for road work. He and his wife, Ann, have two kids, Claire and Sarah. Well, that is my life in a nutshell since graduation.
