Amy's Story
Life
What a journey the last 20 (eek!) years have been. After taking the summer of my senior year off, I embarked on a long (still ongoing) administrative career. I married my prom date 3 years later. We had a good run together, 11 years, but in 1999 after a lot of soul searching, I realized I had to be true to myself and fair to him, so I chose to move on, and began a quest for a life better suited to me. Hopefully he has found a love that better suits him.
During my married years, I didn't focus very hard on advancing in my career, so after the divorce I began working on ramping things up a bit, and it's still a work in process. I spent 4 years at PC Connection learning a LOT of valuable technical & sales/marketing skills, until their first round of layoffs. It was a blessing, really... I was ready for a change. The years since that time have been a wild ride, trying to find my career niche. I ventured into non-profit opportunities, but a wrong match in one job, letting a (former) relationship get in the way of another job, and then another layoff led me to a point where I decided I needed to get out of the non-profit field. So 2 years ago I shifted into the medical administration field. I am currently a Patient Care Coordinator in a family practice in Hopkinton, NH and learning more everyday. Helping our patients (in a non-clinical role) is very rewarding, but I do hope to find a role soon that will allow me to combine my medical experience with my technical skills and and medical terminology training. As I said, it is a work in process but it is fascinating for me to look back and realize how each job has offered pieces to a puzzle that is now beginning to take shape.
In my personal life, I've had my share of heartbreaks, and learned my lessons of love in my late thirties that most people learn when they are in their early 20's. It took me a couple tries, but I've found a man now who is different from anything in the past, and we've been making a g...Expand for more
o of it for the past 3 years, living together in Manchester. I love him immensely, he has helped me to accomplish things in my life personally & professionally that I should have done a long time ago. He is the strongest, smartest, bravest (and most affectionate) guy I've ever been with, and I hope our future together is long. Sometimes I think about getting married again... other times, I'm not sure I have faith in the concept any more. We'll see what happens there. No kids for me. There was a day I thought I wanted them, but at 41, I've concluded that I don't want to bear my own children and I am totally at peace with that. I love my nieces & nephews and that's enough for me. I just need to focus on my and my career, relationship, personal growth & goals.
Aside from work and love, I enjoy the outdoors (camping, fishing, walks in the woods, snowshoeing, biking) and going on day trips in my Jeep Cherokee is always fun. I have travelled a little within the States, my favorites being a solo hippie road trip to Virginia Beach by way of Delaware/Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and another trip (with Al, my current BF) to the Shenandoah area in northern Virginia which included side trips to Gettysburg (amazing, hope to return someday) and Vienna, VA (outside of DC) where Al took me to see my favorite musician, Mark Knopfler, at the WolfTrap, which was one of the best birthday presents ever (thanks babe!) We really enjoy travelling together, and I have many more travel aspirations to accomplish, both national and international, but gotta rustle up the dough first (see career efforts above). Boat & sail, when we can. Love music, it's essential to my soul. Some crafts like beadwork, but don't seem to find much time for it these days. I like reading and watching movies, but not much TV (except Travel Channel, History Channel & HGTV). Love dining out and being with friends.
All in all, not too amazing... I'm optimistic my most colorful years are still ahead.
