Amy's Story
Ok, here is my story.
I've been married to Jerry Horton (RHS '72) since 1978. We have 3 grown children. We spent the better part of the 80's and 90's involved in the kids' soccer, swim , baseball, and softball teams. I was a team mom for countless teams and Jerry coached. The kids love sports and the girls still play soccer in a womens league. James is about to ship out to the ARMY band. He'll be living in Virginia for a while.
I have been teaching since 1989. Currently I am an ATLAS teacher for the Az Dept. of Ed. at a middle school, training and mentoring teachers. I love my job. Before my current position, I was a bilingual math and science teacher in grades 6-8. That might surprise many of my friends, because I was always TERRIBLE...Expand for more
at math and avoided it like the plague in HS and college. My struggle with math as a student really helped me to become a good math teacher, because I could empathise with my students.
I recently got a Masters in School Counseling and Guidance. Although I'm not a school counselor, it has helped me in my dealings with adult learners, who can be more challenging than middle schoolers!.
I like to ride my bicycle and I ride to work a few times a week.
I have 4 Jack Russel Terriers that drive me crazy with their high energy. There are 2 breeding desert tortoises living in my back yard that produce 5-10 babies every fall.
Rocky Point is a favorite destination for my family. We own a cabin in Cholla Bay, right down the street from JJ's Cantina.
