Amy's Story

Since graduating from Firestone HS I went on to Muskingum College and received my degree in Elementary Education with certification in Special Education. Upon graduation from college I married an amazing man (Mike Forshey) who has encouraged me to pursue my dreams and passions. I began my teaching career in Albuquerque, New Mexico teaching 6th-8th grade Emotionally Disturbed students for three years. We left (after the birth of our first son Brandon) New Mexico to relocate to Upland, Indiana (to move closer to family). In Upland, I taught at the local elementary school for the next 8 years. During that time I developed the M.A.L.L. (Maximum Achievement Learning Lab) which was a program that allowed all childre...Expand for more
n in our school to achieve success. In addition, I gave birth to my second son, Evan during that time. I took a year off to be there to help my husband as he pastored a church in Fulton, IN and be a full-time mom¿. After our year in Fulton we relocated to Upland, IN once again. I taught full day Kindergarten for a year before being called into my next career. It was a blessing as we are able to still live in Upland as I commute to work. I now am an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN where I also direct the Special Education program. In addition, I successfully defended my dissertation at Ball State University and will have my EdD. conferred on May 4th, 2013.
