Ana's Story

I came to Manual in '73 from Costa Rica. I graduated with C'75, but did not get to take class photos because at that time I was still in 11th grade. After graduation, I attended LACC, where I earned an AA degree in Secretarial studies. I have had 3 jobs since graduating from LACC. I have been employed by a chemical company in Carson, CA since 1979. I have 2 boys ages 18 and 21. I live in Los Angeles 90062. I relax by reading, playing games on my laptop or just watching a feel good movie on television My hero is my mother. She is a very stong and hardworking black woman. From her, I've learned that anything a man can do, a woman can also do. I have lived in only three places. Born in Costa Rica, moved to NY at age of 16, lived there a few months, and attending Bay Ridge H.S. for a short while, then move to L.A. and stayed. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Agnes Aja, because we were friends in HS, and she one of the people who have not been able to connect with. She was from Africa and I think about her and wonder if she went back to Africa.. From my kids I've learned that you can try to share your experiences with them in hopes that they will not get hurt, but they will have to make their own mistakes. My current age is 52. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be called old people. I was so completely wrong. I thought I would event...Expand for more
ually be a teacher. The closest I came to being a teacher, was working part time at a preschool while going to college. I presently am an administrator for a chemical company. My best friend would tell you I'm a very funny person, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as very serious. In 10 years, I hope to be retired and living againg in Costa Rica. I'm going to get there by saving every penny I can between now and then, so my friends and family can stay with me when they visit.. My oldest friend, Maria, has been my friend since high school. We met in 1973 and have been friends since. We see each other regularly and talk often. We usually get together to celebrate our birthday, which is only 5 days apart. We met at Manual, we were both in the same homeroom and had some of the same classes. I recently traveled to Costa Rica to attend my grandmother's funeral. I got the chance to visit with family and friends, and see the country like I never did before. I realized that although I love living in the US, life here can be so stressfull. Even people who are retired and should be living the "good life" are so stressed out about living on a fixed income. I had the opportunity to see how retired people live in Costa Rica, and that is the way I want to live...so, my goal is to retire there and visit place that I never had a chance to visit when I lived there.
