Andrea's Story

Life I was born in Royal Oak, MI, and lived in the Detroit area for the first few years of my life. We moved to Bay City when I became school age, and that is where I grew up. After graduating from John Glenn High School in 1994, I went to Delta College for two years, and then to Central Michigan University to major in Logistics and Marketing. I graduated in May of 1999 and later went to work for Eaton Corporation as a Materials Scheduler in Kalamazoo, MI. During that time, I trained as a figure skater in my spare time. It was a hobby I had developed in college and wanted to pursue it further to see how far I could go. After two years of living and working in Kalamazoo, I transfered to Eaton Supercharger in Athens, GA, to work as a Materials Planner. Moving south had been one of my desires and goals, and the transfer seemed like the perfect opportunity. The south was an adjustment for me, but a good one. I had to pursue my figure skating in the Atlanta area because there was no rink in Athens. I made the one hour drive to Duluth, GA about four times a week to train with my new coach, Aren Nielsen, who won the U.S. Bronze title in both 1994 and 1995. I was so excited to have a coach of high ranking in the figure skating world! Shortly after I began skating in Duluth, I met James W...Expand for more
right, who was a male pairs skater in our skating club. We hit it right off and became close friends very quickly. It was also very exciting to me to have found a male friend who shared my love for figure skating, and who was straight! We began dating, and within about three months, we were engaged! I'm not normally one to make big decisions that quickly, but I just knew that this was right, no questions asked. James was born and raised in the Atlanta area, so I took him home to meet my family and friends in Michigan. We then planned our wedding and got married in August of 2003, at our church in Georgia. Marriage is such a blessing! It is so much fun when you have found the right one! Currently, we both continue to figure skate in Duluth. Also, I had to find another job in the Duluth area because Athens was such a long commute every day. So I've been working as a Buyer for VWR International since March of 2003. It's been a great career for me so far, and I'm ever so thankful that I live so close to work and don't have to get on the Atlanta highways every morning! What an experience! I really love the metro Atlanta area. It's beautiful and there are so many things to do, but I just hate the traffic! If you feel so inclined, drop me a line and I'd love to catch up with you! Andrea
