Andres's Story

Life Hello All You Happy People, Well, since H.S. I have had some experience. I graduated from college and managed a part-time Military Career that has gone many a times full-time. As many may not know, I am a H.S. History Teacher here at home. Many kids still keep in touch and some would rather forget I exist. Hee! Hee! As for my double life as a US Marine; well, what can I say - postponed my wedding in '98 until '99 bec. I was in Central America and I just returned in Christmas 2002 from the Far East. I was there 11 1/2 months. 9/11 as you may or may not recall affected many far and wide. My loving wife of 2 1/2 years at the time and my 8 month old baby had to manage w/out me. Wow, my wife is so strong and supportive. I was 1/2 way around the world and she was here alone to care for our baby and her dad who was diagnosed w/ cancer. Now, it is Summer '04 and I am gone again. I am headed to Iraq, finally, and we have had another baby girl. She was born April 14th and I left June 1st. I will be gone another year. Upon my return, Andrea will be 4 yrs. old and I will have been gone 2 yrs. - that is half her life and Baby Amadee will be a little over a year old and I left her at 6 weeks of age. I have missed much but lost nothing when compared to others. Boy, babies do not stay babies for long. I am truely blessed to have a wonderful wife, whom I met in late '93, and two beautiful wonderful daughters, who look just like her. Looking back I wish I had done it all sooner. It took me a very long time, 5 1/2 yrs., to commit to this marriage and our babies were a real surprise I'll tell you. As I close my eyes, I can see every grand moment - meeting my wife, our 1st date, my proposal, our wedding day, "Hun, were PREGNANT!", loosing a baby on Mother's Day 2003, our daughters' births, "Go ahead Hun, buy a Harley - You deserve one!!!" & our good-byes. "God is Great, Life is Beautiful." Whoever you are? Whether we were best of friends or not, drop me a line. Let me know how you are doing? I know I was not the best person in H.S. For that I deeply & sincerely apologize. That was then. This is now... School I hated H.S. So much I am now here to make up for it by trying to reach old friends. I was not the most pleasant person and for that I am truely sorry. If I had been 1/2 as good as I am now, life may have been a nil better. Sure!!! Seriously, H.S. was a surreal experience and I would like to reach out to old classmates, old chums, and maybe get lucky enough to break the hearts of chics that dumped me then or refused my "mating call". JJ! If you are an old flame, whether you may recall or not, drop me a line. No, I am not looking for some extracurricular activities. If I said I loved you, I must have lied...I did not commit suicide and we are not married. Furthermore, if you ever uttered the words and had meant it, you'd be my wife. Que No??? (Disclaimer - Eddy, this does not apply to you. We stayed good friends and I am very happy for you. Let's chat and exchange pics of our rugrats.) Back to business at hand, I am now taken and the "Vacancy" sign is gone. On a more serious note, if you knew me or thought you knew me...drop me a line. Let's chat and talk of memories we wish we had. Hee! Hee! College Hey, what can I say. I graduated in 3 years. This place was easier than High School. I did what I wanted and finished. H.S. was too much presure in everyway but academics. I loathed it!!!! I say this to all my students there. "All your troubles will all be over after you leave this God forsaken dump called Free Public Education. However, realize this. H.S. is the time of your life. Why? This is the one time in your life when you will have the most amount of liesure time and the most amount of free-spending $$$! After all this it is college and away we go. There you will truely find yourself on the least time available and m...Expand for more
ost meger financial resources." School was great and I miss it. Wish I had stayed there - FOREVER!!! I got a degree in History, God only knows why! My minor was Anthropology. What can I say? I always wanted to be "Indiana Jones". "Treasures, women, exotic places...life would be simple." If not, I would live with chimps. They have manners. NO FRATS!!! That was for people to pretend they were happy, try to find identity, think they fitted in, recommend shrinks and exchange therapists numbers. Me??? Just student groups and Honor Societies. Yeah, I was Dean's List, Who's Who, la, la la, la-la....Everything that I should have done in H.S. I did in college. So much for being a LOSER, hey!!! That is where it really mattered, I guess. Too bad they do not reflect my teacher pay. Hee! Hee! Workplace I teach at Edinburg North. No, I never applied at our ALma Mater. Are you kidding??? That place was a dump. The only placed I liked was the Dungeon. Library as most would like it to be called. Been here since '94. I love it there. Yeah, I love history too. However, I am still working on loving the kids. Hey, all things considering...this profession chose me. I try to make a difference in kids lives because I know that for some...I am the most stable individual they see in their lives. I am a model for them to emmulate. Many I have reached and many I have not. The greatest pride that I have is that somehow a child may remember me oneday and say to the world. "Mr. Garza cared when other's said not too. He took the time, when other's simply wanted to get home for dinner. And, Mr. Garza said what he meant and meant what he said." I am the man that I am to day because of my teacher's and the individuals, who took the time to care, in my life as a student. I was a child then and I am a man today. From them I learned what it meant to be a man, a husband, and a father. Everything I am I owe it to another. That is why I am here. I have not forgotten their sacrifice and I can do nothing less for those who follow behind me. What kind of a man would I be, if I forget who I am, where I come from, and had no sense of my direction? Too all those who affected me, I sincerely thank you. I am a better man today, because you cared. Military Work Still In Progress!!! Never, made it a full-time career because I have little tolerance for the stupid things that stupid people do. If you knew me, you knew that I was not one to sit idley by and say, "Hey, I love the military...I do little and I am just here for the retirement and benfits." Bullshit, I'll fight anyone, anywhere. Let's just do the job and get it done right the first time. I stay connected with the hopes we will return to those days when America bled. When men and women in uniform sacrificed all their tomorrow's so we could have our today's. We knew our enemies and we fought them with hell. Today, we are lackidaisical and we are a beauracracy. So after the 1st Gulf War and the constant dismal leadership that resulted in further loss of lives and plunging morale, I went to another front...our classrooms. There I fight a war for young children's minds and hearts with the hopes of a better tomorrow. I'll fight and die if necessary to know that my love ones will see another tomorrow. That is why after returning to Active Duty for 2002 after 9/11, I came home despite being highly encouraged to stay. I said, "Here is my number, call me when there is a real war and insure my ticket takes me straight there. No pit stops or other port calls. Please have my weapon ready. Do not worry, I'll go home, but I will not unpack." In the meantime, I am back with my baby and wife and I'll wait for that call, bug my Reserve Unit as to when we will get deployed to the front, create hate and discontent... and I check my messages everyday! The phone does not ring... I am becoming a "civilian pig".... God help me.
