Andrew's Story
Life
We are all animated corpses
dancing wild at Cinderella's ball,
until the stroke of midnight sounds
and back to earth we fall...
In the movie "Little Big Man" there was a guy who did everything backwards. Washed himself with sand, dried himself with water; you get the point. Looking back from this rock in the middle of the stream, I notice two things: first, my feet are wet; second, that my life, at least in some ways, resembles the "contrary" character in that great film. Fatherhood then marriage, for instance. Not the traditional order. My son was 12 years old and the ring-bearer at his parents' wedding, in a helicopter over Las Vegas.
At home, my darkly creative personality is fattened on macabre tidbits, preferably to the music of rain and thunderclaps, reading and writing "classic" style weird horror stories and watching good old fashioned monster movies.
School
Mercifully...Expand for more
, few humans remember me from high school. But even their memories of me are false, because I never did any of those things. It was one of THEM - one of the pod people!
College
It took me 22 years to get an AA degree. On a bright note, I am a proud graduate of the De Anza College Physical Therapist Assistant program, Class of 2005. Sadly, the PTA program has since been dismantled due to budget cuts. In hindsight, my timing was perfect.
Workplace
Having recently entered the field of health care after 3 years of unemployment, I'm the first to admit that this was never a "calling" for me - but my heart is in the right place. Coming from the tech industry, I've been forced to develop social muscles I never knew I had. I'm sore all over, but just like working out, mind as well as body adapts over time to new conditions. I am stronger for my experiences, and more grateful for what I have.
