Andrew's Story
Hi all,
The last 20 years have been interesting for me. I certainly never expected to be where I am now, but life has turned out well over all for the most part.
Most of you knew I joined the Navy & was going to serve on Submarine duty. Well, it turned into 1 1/2 yrs of training in Connecticut, and then being stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI for a few years. Re-enlistment was my original plan, but the military downsized after Persian Gulf war, and thus honorably discharged me.
Working in Electronics in civilian life without a degree didn't happen readily, so eventually I went to ITT Tech & got my first Associates. The Sept 11 event put a firm stop on that career track, with me being laid off from Rcokwell Collins. However, the benefits let me go back to school a second time at Tacoma CC to get a degree in IT + partial work on conversion to AS: Comp Sci.
IT has proven to be a great crossover & the work is challenging in good ways. My Current job is administering a Cell phone network testing system for a dept at AT & T ( I actually work for the maker of the product, but am assigned to AT & T as a rep/Sys admin). This is turning out to be probably the best job Ive ever had..

ed with a Peruvian woman ( talk about trying to remember Spanish from Senora Carlbaum's classes!!!). She has a 12 yr old daughter as well.
Currently I live up in Seattle, and am very much enjoying some time living solo (except for a Balinese cat, and a hooded rat-both Christmas gifts). As time permits, I try to get out dancing for 80's night, and enjoy middle ages re-cration during the summer at things like ren faires. Archery is my big thing there, though this year I started Fencing as well.
Most of you will remember how much I was into music, espcially playing Bassoon, Bari Sax, etc. Well, I kept up with that through my mid twenties, but then lost my instruments. Recently, I got a basic bassoon & am working my chops back up. However, my tutor says the instrument is not that great, so its time to look into getting a better one (and I have the income to do it, thank goodness). Ive also done some vocal stuff, learned some middle eastern drumming, and aspire to pick up a harp ( had some basic lessons & did well).
So , there you have it. Life was good, but my thought is that even if you don't wind up where you expected originally, you still learn a lot, and sometimes get better perspective on yourself.
