Andy's Story

Life During High School I was party animal with a disregard for anything that would get in my way of feeling good. A rebel? You could say that. A person who did not know how to treat girls with the respect that they deserve. Girls were an object for the most part. After High School my parents said they would not send me to college with out me making an investment in my own future. They were afraid that I would waste my time and their money and they were right. So I joined the Army as a mechanic for 2 years. In the military I embraced the life style after the initial shock of having my identity erased. Once I became a soldier I got acquainted with some people that were smoking the same kind of cigarettes that I used to smoke. I realized after sharing a cigarette with them that everything on the outside of me had changed; clothes, haircutt, but that I was the same person on the inside. The military had not changed that and could not change that. I got promoted shortly after that and one day out of the blue they decided to give our company a urinalysis. I got scared that they would find traces in my urin so I prayed. I made a deal with God that if he would get me out of this one and make sure I didn't get demoted I would not smoke again. I didn't get caught and I haven't smoked since. Shortly after that my roomates invited me to a church that they were going to. I went and the preacher gave an invitation at the end of the service. He said,"If anyone here has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior that they could. They could have all their sins, everything they have ever don...Expand for more
e wrong forgiven them. That God would see them as if they had never done anyting wrong." He said, "All you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart and ask him to forgive you. Believe He is the Son of God and that He can do it. It's that simple." I know I had probably heard this before but maybe the timing wasn't right then. My heart lept out of my chest and I knew that was for me. I prayed that prayer and have never been alone since. I cried that day the first time in who knows how many years. My heart was not as hard anymore. I recieved a new conscience that day and started treating others with the respect that they deserve. Shortly after that day I prayed for a partner to walk this life with. A woman that was as beautiful on the inside as on the out. One that had the same values as I did. One that would want to serve God as much as I did. My eyes were open to a beautiful woman who had been through some hard times herself with a broken marriage. She had 2 children, a girl 5 and a boy 3. We got married I got out of the military and did what we had to do to makes ends meet. We moved to Oklahoma to be by her parents because they were older than mine. We served them for 20 years and they have died and gone to heaven. Now we live back in Liberty serving my parents. We have been married for 19 years and we are helping to raise our grand daugter who is 2 years old. I worked for Sprint Nextel for 10 years and took a severance package this Spring and am looking at starting a Farmers Insurance Agency with my wife so we can spend more time together and so we can have our own business.
