Andy's Story

I was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida. I went to St. Paul's Catholic School and Seabreeze High School. After a stint in the USAF from '61 to '65 I earned a BSc in Broadcasting '70 and later an MEd in Educational Media and Instructional Design '76 both from the University of Florida. I also earned my USCG Ocean Master's 100 tons license in '85, later upgraded to 300 tons. At last count I had about 8,000 days offshore cruising, fishing and running a 100' utility boat out to the oil platforms off Louisiana.. I have a daughter and a teenage grandson, both following in my footsteps loving fishing. I'm proud of them! I'm now retired and spending most of my time in Daytona Beach aboard what is probably my last big boat. All total I lived aboard different boats for over 25 years and will continue to be aboard if my health allows. Now I have a 48' Ocean Yachts sportfisherman for offshore fishing and a 23' fishing boat that I use to primarily fish around Ponce Inlet.. I've had several careers and enjoyed them all: Broadcast Communications including Radio and TV; Higher Education as a Department Director/Instructional Developer at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and as a Media Specialist and Instructor at Bethune-Cookman College (now University) where I created and ta...Expand for more
ught a degree program in Broadcasting. After 10 years in the barrel I took a flyer from the hallowed halls of ivy and went into Custom Yacht Repair forming a small company working part of the year and then spending summers in the Bahamas on my boat. After that I met a Canadian gal who owned a small hotel in the Dominican Republic, and then spent the next 13 years with her as an innkeeper helping run the hotel part of the year and spending the rest of the year vacationing in Florida or Canada. I left her and the hotel in early '11 to return to Daytona and retirement with my health dwindling but determined to spend my final years aboard in Daytona Beach. In 2022 I purchased the Ocean Yachts sportfish in Cape May, NJ and brought it back to Daytona Beach, a trip of over 800 miles down the east coast of the US. I like diverse genres of music but primarily rock from the 60s to the 80s. My musical training at SHS in both the band and the glee club prepared me for an appreciation of music that ranges from Bach to the Beatles, some country too . Both recorded and live music still enriches my life and God willing, will carry me to the end. I've been described as a "Renaissance Man" and all I can say is that it's been one hell of a ride, one that I continue to enjoy today.

Thanksgiving morning breakfast. Three eggs, 2 slices of Colby-Jack cheese, a slice of tomato and some shaved onion. Breakfast of a hungry man!
Tonight’s sky with several kinds of clouds. One reminds me of a huge Wahoo streaking across the vista.

Tuesday 7:35pm in the marina. Another glorious Florida day’s ending.
Another early morning shot looking across my dock at the boats on another dock in the marina. Lately we’ve been having some pretty skies early morning, an indication of probable rain today. And for those of you who don’t
Quick shot of sunrise at the marina this morning.
Big motor yacht behind my boat tonight. Stepped out onto rear deck and saw this. I grabbed my phone and shot this dramatic scene. Enjoy.
The apple didn't fall far from the tree. Happy Mother's Day mom up above.
Here’s my new baby! Signed the buyer’s acceptance after a survey, haulout and sea trial in Cape May, NJ yesterday. I’ll bring her down to Fla in April when the weather allows. Not today as I’m sitting in my motel room wi
