Andy's Story

Hi !!! After some great times at Western High School and a lot of great Rock & Roll music, I went on to Jackson Community College to study Engineering and continued on to Michigan State (go Spartans!!) I graduated from Michigan State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in Dec/1976. I completed an Engineering and Software career at IBM (Austin Texas) from Feb/1977 through March/2007 and retired after 30 years of service, remaining in Texas. From 1982 through 2007 I was a Sr. Manager of Software Development on numerous exciting projects. Some include the Web-Sevices (infrastructure software)behind the scenes, used to create and display websites around the world, such as the one your using now. During this career I had the pleasure of managing 1000's of employees, many who remain some of my closest friends today. I still keep in touch with many from my very 1st department in 1982. I'm fortunate to be married to a wonderful wife, Bonnie Skrzynski (maiden name Roza) from Dearborn, MI and have 2 Daughters Shannon and Colleen. Notice the Irish in Bonnie, Shannon, Colleen and the Irish bloodline is definitely evident in their wonderful and beloved temperament! Bonnie is my closest buddie. Believe it or not, in our retirement, we start out each day sipping coffee, playing cribbage and scrabble before starting off with other daily activities and we throw in a couple more games here and their when we want a break! We love to play Texas Hold-em Poker and play in free tournaments whenever they arise in our area. My passions in order are: Bonnie, Children, Friends, good cup of coffee, Economics/Investing, Fishing, Nature (but not a tree hugger), Games... My dislikes in order are: Dishonesty, most (not all) politicians/politics, lack of integrity, greed, rudeness, lack of thoughtfulness and, oh yea, starting to lose some of my memories. I've never understood those w...Expand for more
ho tell me they're afraid of being bored when they retire! I tell them it's an opportunity to do more for yourself, family and friends, rather than spending so much time doing something for somebody else's business. I'm busier now than ever, having more time to do more things I love, now that I'm retired. I spend 6 to 8 hours daily pouring through Economic/Financial news and active Stock trading. I usually start my day around 5am to catch up on the International news and look ahead to the Stock and Commodity Futures and don't usually make it to bed till 11am or later. To help my friends and family to understand what's going on in this area, I send out a Financial Newsletter monthly with occasional flash updates. Even though I didn't serve in the Armed Forces, I've come across some great friends where I live that served in the Marines. They invited me to their local Marine Detachment and I started helping them with many of their charitable fund raisers. Last year they made me an Honorary member of their Marine detachment and I love being part of our group. We handle approx. 15 charitable fund raisers annually, have 2 or 3 fishing outings annually, play poker monthly and have breakfast weekly. This Detachment includes more than 30 veteran men and women who've served across most of the Armed Forces and across such wars/battles, including: WWII, Iwo Jima, Korean, Vietnam, Afganastan, Iraq, and others... Our biggest event each year is Toys for Tots, where we gather cash and toy donations and buy and distribute thousands of toys to hundreds of families over more than 8 towns/cities in our area. It consumes a great deal of time during November and December, but is worth all the efforts when you hear and see the children's joys when they get these toys - it's heart warming. And ... I'm thankful every morning to awake, still breathing !!! Take Care Now and send me an email! Andy :-)
