Andy's Story
Life
I'm almost 50 and I finally feel like I am an in independent adult.
I married Karen Swift from our class a couple of years out of college. We were together for 23 years and separated last year. We are on good terms and Laura (16) and Gary (13) are two really happy kids.
I have my own house in Avondale and can cook, clean, do wash, buy food, pay bills, make kids do homework, and enjoy time with my family--just like a real adult. And I'm pretty good at it too. How about that?
Overall, I've been pretty happy with my life. I've gone through lots of different phases and find myself in a great place right now. Everything in my life is going just fine. And I am even pretty healthy dispite my 3 heart attacks (they were caught quickly and no damage was done) and three heart stents that I have! I can't complain.
School
If I'd had known that I would have to work on this class reunion thing every five years for the rest of my life, maybe I wouldn't have run for class president!
We've been working on the 30th Year Reunion (can you believe it?!) I look forward to seeing everyone at the Embassy Suites on 896 in Newark on the Saturday after Labor Day, September 15, 2007.
College
I graduated from the University of Delaware in 1981 with a BS Degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing. Here's a...Expand for more
funny story, during college I didn't go to one party or even drink a beer or anything. I was pretty focused.
After four years I had a 3.9 GPA, was in every honor society, won the Alexander Taylor Award as the most outstanding graduating man, and was appointed to the Board of Trustees for two years (as the recent-student member). Hard to believe.
You know what? None of that means anything when you graduate. Nobody cares about that stuff. Plus I had to learn how to relax and be social (again) because I was so intense back then. You can be really smart but if you have a low emotional/social IQ it's hard to be successful.
Workplace
I worked at Dupont for a couple of years after college. There I met my partner Jim. We started a computer training business when PCs were just coming onto the scene back in 1983.
Today we are one of the largest training companies in the US. I travel to New England frequently on business...it's nice up there. Providence, RI is my favorite city there. Now we are expanding south and I'm working on opening sites in NC, SC, and TN.
My company's name is ONLC Training Centers. Check us out on the internet (just google name) if you want to see what I've built in about 25 years. (They don't allow web addresses here.) I'm having the time of my life at work. It's a lot of fun.
