Andy's Story

Life I live in Wyoming where I am married and a first-time dad to a precious little girl. You can certainly say my live has changed dramatically since our twenty year reunion. I moved from Dallas to the state of Idaho in July of 2002 to work for a rodeo company that is owned by the family of a close friend. For a while I actually worked as a ranch hand on a horse and bull ranch located 30 miles from Idaho Falls. It was the ultimate career change that I found to be both hard work and a great experience. Working as a ranch hand led me to become a major rodeo and bull riding fan. How funny that I grew up in Mesquite, close to the Mesquite Rodeo, and never even attended a rodeo there. Later I met Laurel who eventually became my wife on September 26, 2003. Laurel is so incredible and heaven sent and I simply couldn't ask for a better companion in life. We were married in Ogden, Utah, where her family lives and we had our honeymoon in the Grand Teton National Park at Signal Mountain Lodge. After we married, we decided to live in Cokeville, Wyoming, which is a tiny town with a population of 506, located in the western part of the state. Cokeville, home to the Pine Creek Ski Resort, is where Laurel had lived for the previous eight years. After moving to Cokeville, I went to work as a teacher at Majestic Ranch Academy which is a school for troubled youth who are typically middle school age. While there, I taught a boy's class covering all subjects which proved to be challenging and rewarding at the same time. I can safely say that becoming a school teacher was also something I never thought I'd do in life. Although I did enjoy working with the youth there, I later made the decision to leave the school to focus on a new career as a loan officer in the mortg...Expand for more
age industry. Laurel loves her job as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher at a local middle school where she is yearbook advisor and director of the annual school play. She is also a writing and reading trainer for the school district and is in charge of the middle school spelling bee. Both Laurel and I are on the board of directors of the Cokeville Miracle Foundation which is a community based charity. The foundation works to "promote, sponsor and carry out projects which will enhance the community quality of life, encourage personal and community growth, recognize and encourage worthy achievement, acknowledge the blessings of heaven, assist fellow citizens and create extraordinary memorials to great lives and events that have affected our community and the larger world". On December 22, 2004, my wife and I became the proud parents of Jaeli Sarah, our healthy and beautiful daughter who is destined to have me wrapped around her little finger. She has lots of brown hair and big blue eyes, and we just know that she is observing everything in the world so that she can be intelligent and wise. Really, she has a very pleasant personality. She and I enjoy our daddy/daughter time together. In October 2005 we relocated an hour north to the town of Afton, Wyoming located in scenic Star Valley. Star Valley is referred to as "Heaven on Earth" by those familiar with it's majestic beauty. We are very active in our church here in Afton where Laurel oversees teacher development for the Sunday School programs. I may have won the "most changed" award at two different reunions, but I really have had the most change in the past few years than I ever have experienced. I look forward to seeing all of you at the next Mesquite High School Class of 1981 reunion.
