Angel's Story
Life
In October of 2008 I started a journey of breast cancer. It is now the first of May and I have two different cancers in one breast, one of which has spread to the pleura surrounding both lungs, inside the left lung my sternum and more lymph nodes on my right side. This is going to be one helluva fight, but fight I will. I had a bilateral mastectomy on July 1, 2009, a clean PET scan after that and was elated. But, soon I was deflated to learn that some red spots that showed up during my recovery were indeed more cancer. I had those removed on August 31, 2009 and hope that the new chemo I started 3 weeks ago will keep any others at bay. I know the check in routine at Arrowhead Hospital so well that I could do it in my sleep! ry last month. Just a dinner out at that's all I had the strength for. We've been together 33 years (took him a while to propose). I am Stepmom to his 3 children, Grandma to our 9 Granddaughters and 6 or 7 Great-grandchildren, I lost count. We left Phoenix in 1983 when he retired from the Phoenix Fire Department and have lived in Jerome, Bullhead City (with the Fire Department), and since 1997 we've been living in a historic home on a historic street in downtown Prescott. It is our dream home and she turned 100 years old in 2007! We love the ocean (especially the Caribbean) and love to snorkel. Our passion is playing trivia at a local restaurant and with our 20 year age difference we have quite a time span covered. He's great at WW11 questions and I do pretty well with the 1970's, it's a good balance. I'm still very good friends with Carolyn Bell who retired a Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force at the end of 2006.
