Angela's Story
Workplace
First job was at Round Table pizza in 1982 - I loved making pizzas, but despised the management at the time. Moved on to Wienerschnitzel, which was a blast for 3 1/2 years - lots of fun and great memories. While at wiener dog, I enlisted in the Air Force in August 1985. Left Woodland for basic training in Feb 1986 and, except for visits, never went back.
Spent 1986-1989 as a member of Air Force Now, traveling the world, making movies for the Air Force and loving every minute of it.
After 4 years of service, I moved with my husband, Mark, to Osan AB, Korea, where I did volunteer video work for the public affairs office. From Korea we moved to Germany, where our only child, David, was born. I spent 1991-1992 volunteering at the Family Services Support office (I was fortunate enough to be able to take David to work with me). I became assistant coordinator during my year there, helping families transition in & out of Ramstein AB, and providing aid to those who were forced to evacuate Clark AB. That year was one of the best - the job was fulfilling, life in Germany was fantastic and I had my son, David. From Germany it was back to the States, out of the military and onto Wisconsin. Became a paralegal in 1994, first working in small claims & workers compensation, then moving into family and criminal law - oh, what an experience that was - and finally ending up in real estate law, which I loved. Joined the Air Force Reserves in 1996, and became (of all things) a cook. Though the Services career field encompasses 5 different jobs, the one most people focus on is food service. But hey, someone has to do it! In 2002 I quit the legal profession and in 2003 I moved into something more flexible - food service!! Yes, there is a theme here... some things just don't change. It's okay though, I've always loved to cook, so I might as well go with it. From 2003 until the summer ...Expand for more
of 2007 I worked for Sodexho at Carroll College. It was great cooking for the students and staff, and handling all catering events. I absolutely loved it! However, after becoming a member of the Air Force JAG Corps I realized how much I also missed working in the legal field as a civilian. Just after the beginning of '08 I began working at Waukesha's oldest law firm as a paralegal for the firm's only female attorney, dealing with a little bit of everything but mostly municipal matters, foreclosures and guardian ad litem work. As for my military service, after almost 18 years I had to leave the military due to a neck injury & subsequent surgery in 2007. I miss serving my country immensely & the only thing I regret is not being able to reach my 20 and retire as a veteran. In 2013, I moved to Denver to start over - new career, new life and a new love. I've worked for the VA since then, helping Veterans and their families who have been impacted by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune. Very fulfilling work! Life couldn't be better with my hubby, Keith by my side.
Left active duty to join Mark at Osan AB, Korea; did some video work for public affairs while I was there. From Korea we went to Ramstein AB, Germany; had our son, David, while stationed there, and I had a wonderful experience volunteering at Family Services. After Mark left the military in 1992, we settled in Wisconsin. I missed the Air Force so much that I joined the 440th in 1996, cross-training into Services which I have learned over the past 11 years is a challenging career field. Thanks to Services I have been in charge of numerous areas - the dining hall storeroom, lodging, Unit Training Manager, and even worked as the ART - and really "grew up" a great deal in the process. And just like AAVS, Services afforded me the opportunity to travel the world, meet great people and enjoy many memorable experiences.
