Angela's Story

I DON'T KNOW HOW MY CLASSMATES REMEMBER ME, BUT I REMEMBER ME AS NOT BEING A VERY NICE PERSON. I HAD A SMART MOUTH, AND TOO MUCH BRAINS FOR SUCH A SMALL HEAD. UNFORTUNATELY, I DID NOT PUT THOSE BRAINS TO MUCH USE! EVEN THOSE CLOSE TO ME, DIDN'T REALLY KNOW ME - I HAD LEARNED AS A CHILD TO NOT LET PEOPLE TOO CLOSE - THEY WILL ONLY LEAVE YOU OR HURT YOU. I HOPE THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE THAT REMEMBER ME FONDLY - I DID CARE FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE, BUT I HAD A RULE - SCREW THEM, BEFORE THEY SCREW ME! GRADUATION DAY - I CRIED ALL DAY AND THE GALS I WAS HANGING OUT WITH COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY - THEY WERE READY TO BE FREE AND GROWNUP. I SAW IT A DIFFERENT WAY - I KNEW FROM THAT DAY ON - WE WE WOULD BE GOING OUR SEPERATE WAYS AND THE WALL OF SAFETY I HAD BUILT AROUND ME WITH THOSE FRIENDS WAS NOT GOING TO BE THERE ANYMORE. THEY LAUGHED AND CALLED ME SILLY. OF COURSE, I WAS RIGHT - BUT, BOY DID I WANT TO BE PROVED WRONG. I always wanted to be a PILOT W/THE BLUE ANGELS when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a UNREALISTIC idea. As it turns out, they were RIGHT. I DON'T THINK I HAVE FOUND A SUCESSFUL WAY TO BLOW OFF STEAM - I USED TO DRINK YEARS AGO, TO TRY AND WISH MY PROBLEMS AWAY. NOW, I HAVE RE-NEWED SEVERAL HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDSHIPS SO I SHARE WITH THEM AND I HAVE A GOOD CRY! I DON'T THINK I SHOULD SAY WHAT THE WILDEST THING I DID IN SCHOOL WAS - I WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE SOME NAMES TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT! If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have CHOCOLATE AND A PEPSI ONE, to be able to deal with the day-to-day. OKAY, THIS MAY BE WIERD - I KNOW I'M A WOMAN BUT MY HERO IS - HUGH HEFNER. HE IS SOO COOL. HE IS THE REAL PETER PAN - HE'S NEVER GROWN UP AND LIVES IN A FANTASY WORLD HE HAS CREATED FOR HIMSELF. AFTER LEAVING LAGRANGE IN 1986 - I MOVED TO DOTHAN, ALABAMA - IN JUNE OF 1987, I MET MARK WHO WOULD BECOME MY FIRST HUSBAND AND FATHER OF MY ONLY CHILD, ZACH. HE WAS FROM OHIO - BUT HOME ON LEAVE BEFORE GOING TO GERMANY FOR THREE YEARS. WE MET ON A MONDAY AND GOT MARRIED THE NEXT TUESDAY. WE LIVED IN MAINZ, WEST GERMANY AND WE WERE THERE WHEN THE WALL CAME DOWN! WHEN WE CAME BACK TO THE STATES, WE MOVED TO ATLANTA AND STAYED THERE UNTIL WE SPLIT UP IN 1993. ZACH AND I, MOVED BACK TO DOTHAN, ALABAMA AND A YEAR AND A HALF LATER, I MARRIED MY SECOND HUSBAND, BJ. WE MOVED TO ATLANTA IN FEB. 2004 AND NOW I HAVE MOVED BACK TO LAGRANGE - I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB - I PLAN TO START THE MASTER'S PROGRAM FOR TEACHING AT LAGRANGE COLLEGE IN THE SUMMER. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Donna Cornwell, because she died too young. I do not watch sports. I can be a sucker for reality television - I love Doctor 90210 - I would like to go and get an overall myself! Mystery diagnosis, trauma in the ER - oh all of those gross medical shows! At this point, I love the series on Cable - Dexter, as well as, Californication, and a new one TruBlood. I am addicted to Grey's Anatomy and I love this new show called Worst Week - it makes me think my life isn't the only one that sucks! I don't think life ever turns out the way you think it will - my biggest surprise has been, that I'm a good mother. My son might argue with you on that, right now - he is 18 and can't believe he can't do anything with out me knowing about it. I've tried to tell him - no matter what he does, I've probably done worse - he can not look at me and lie. But, for the most part he's just experiementing with this and that - but does tell me I am the best Mom ever - along with his friends - who all want to live here and a few have. Right now, I am looking for a home here in LaGrange. My dream home would be on the beach in Mexico!. Being a parent has taught me that life is good. I didn't always know that. But, from the minute I held Zach in my arms - I knew I could and would do anything to keep him happy and safe. I actually got to see my favorite teacher from Junior High - Mrs. Cook. I was at the Troup County Archives doing some genealogical research and she came in - of course, after all the students she had, she did not remember me. But, I was able to share with her what a difference she had made in my life. She was there for me when I was going through a really tough time. Those of you who know me - know I didn't really have a Mom around but, Mrs. Cook was a great substitute. If I won $100 million, I'd give part of it to my family, then spend the rest on traveling, my dream home on the beach in Mexico and a large part would go to a charity for the prevention and intervention of child abuse.. I did not live on campus when I went to college - I was 34 before I started working on my ...Expand for more
Psychology degree. I graduated in May 2003. I am happy, I am seperated from my husband and I believe we will get a divorce. I never thought I deserved to be treated well - boy did that screw up some relationships. But, I am so much more confident than I was as a teen-ager - I don't beat myself up for what is in the past, I'm not the same person. If I had the money, I would want to be living on a beach - running a little tourist shop and drinking Amaretto Sours, all day. No worries. My current age is 43. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be crazy. I was so completely right. I have no idea what happened to my first crush - his name was Lynn, we were in the 3rd grade and I would chase him around the playground, knock him down and sit on him - the whole time kissing him all over his face. He probably hates women and still lives with his Mama. My best friend would tell you I'm a good listener, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a motor mouth. I absolutely do not dress like I did 20 years ago. How I could breath in those skin tight jeans - I'll never know. It had the be the pencil thin - super straight leg Levi's with the white patch on the cheek or nothing! It's so funny, my 18 yr old son - now wears those pencil thin super straight jeans - he thinks he is a rock in roll singer! Shades of Mick Jagger - minus the lips! Well, I never really had a weird job but, I would say I had a job that most people who think they know me, would be surprised to know - is a caretaker for an elderly lady, that had alzheimers. I dressed her, fed her, held her when she cried and changed her diapers. That job taught me so much -I learned to treat people the way I want to be treated. In one of her lucid days, she told me she had not been a nice person - not even to her kids and I guess that's why they were not there to take care of her. I just hope when and if I am ever in the position - there will be someone who cares about me. I don't really have trophies but, I do have a few plaques from the US Army - I worked for them while I was living in Germany. They like to give up morale so, I got awards for Outstanding Service, Employee of the Year, etc. While in college - I got certificates -I was an Ambassador for the university. I was the President of the Student Governement Association - I received several scholarships while working on my Undergraduate degree, then I rec'd a Leadership scholarship for Graduate school. If I got one do-over - I would have told someone when I was six, that I was being sexually abused. My abuser would have went to jail and he would not have had the chance to do it to other children. In 10 years, I hope to be 53. I'm going to get there by enjoying the ride. My oldest friend is Anna - I met her when I was in the 5th grade and I was living in Blue Springs, Alabama. We went to the same church - where we were not allowed to wear pants, cut our hair or participate in any "worldly" activities - like skating, going to movies, wearing a bathing suit to go swimming, etc. We clicked immediatley - we were both so scared of everything - we were constantly told about the hellfire and brimstone that was going to rain down on the sinners and according to them - everything was a sin! We're still friends - I ususally see her a couple of times a year. We have chosen different lives - she does wear pants but, is very religious and raises her children that way. Me, I'm another story! I think the the thing that would surprise people at the 25th reunion is that I am a mother to a son - that has not been in jail, gotten a DUI or hit a woman. He is going to school to be a History teacher and a Tennis coach - he's way ahead of me - at his age I just wanted to live another year. My first job was at a road side fruit stand, where I got paid $150 a week to run the stand from 6 am until 6 pm - six days a week. What I remember most about it is I did a lot of reading and I bought most of my own school clothes for the 7th grade myself. A memory I will never forget is the day my Mom came home in the middle of the day to tell me Cody Costley was dead. I had just seen him the day before and talked to him on the phone the night before - he was learning to play the guitar and he must have played "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynard Skynard - 10 times. Cody was the best 'guy" friend I had ever had - he was a smartass, he was funny and maybe alot of people didn't know but he was loyal and caring. He took up for me - maybe he didn't understand me but, he loved me anyway. Th thing I will always remember is his beautiful smile and that strut he had when he walked!
