Angelina's Story
Graduated BHS 1963. Married Jim D'aries from North Babylon, Aug, 1964. He was in the Navy, stationed in Japan for 1 yr. I flew there, married him, and we lived there for 2 more years. My daughter Darlene was born there in Dec, of 1965. Both of my children graduated from West Babylon High School. Darlene got her Masters in Teaching at Dowling College, married her childhood sweetheart and gave us 3 wonderful grandchildren: TJ, Melanie, and Katie.
We returned to the U.S. in 1966, lived in Deer Park and North Babylon, then bought a house in West Babylon, and have lived here for 48 yrs. My son James was born in 1969. He graduated Pratt, married, divorced, and has given us 2 beautiful granddaughters, Kelsey & Madison. All of them still live on LI, so I'm fortunate. I adore them and love being Nana.
I'm retired for awhile now, worked a few different jobs but spent 15 yrs. working in a local nursing home as a dieticians assistant. Jim went to work for Grumman after the Navy & worked there for 29 yrs., retired, then worked as a consultant for Northrop for 3 yrs., then worked for Babylon post office-(he's always running into someone from NB, DP or Babylon)! He's retired now since 2013.
We were married 56 yrs in Aug! We took the family on a cruise to the Bahamas for our 50th anniversary. We like to travel whenever we can & have visited every continent but Antarctica. I think that trip to Japan when I was young gave me this wanderlust and desire to see other countries, meet people from other cultures, be where history is being made or see history that has already been made! Keeps me young at heart! The summer of 2008 we went to China for the Olympics, saw Beijing, stayed in a Chinese hutong, which was different, to say the least, but we learned more about the culture n people than we would have if we had stayed in a fancy American hotel. After the Se...Expand for more
pt. 2008 reunion (which was poorly attended), we went to Italy, (my favorite), this time the Northern part, with Switzerland thrown in. I got to check out the fashions in Milan, oh yeah! And we got to see the Last Supper painting in Milan (only by appointment). Recently went on a trip to South Africa, which was wonderful beyond my expectations. We visited the wine country, Cape Town n the entire peninsular all the way to Cape of Good Hope, went to the top of Table Top Mountain, then on to a lodge where we went on safaris. OMG! Amazing. My bucket list is getting smaller...........is that a good thing?
When we're not traveling or planning a trip somewhere, I like to garden-I enjoy making my surroundings pretty! I enjoy cooking, baking, seeing my extended family (there are a lot of them now), time with my grandchildren, reading, gambling, and just taking time to reflect. Life is so short.......so much to do, so little time!
Since we're local, we've been to quite a few reunions, North Babylon's & Babylon. It's always fun to see old friends & classmates. I've answered quite a few of your emails & hope to hear from more of you!
We planned and celebrated our 50th Class of 1963 Reunion for BHS on Oct. 12, 2013. It took a year of planning and reaching out to everyone, working with the best committee anyone could wish for, but finally we saw the fruits of our labor come to pass. It was a wonderful weekend, with many grads in attendance. We found all but 15 of our classmates, 57 were deceased already. We had a website set up but last year we had to shut it down. If you are on Facebook, I have a BHS Class of 63’ site. If you would like your name added to the list of classmates just let me know. You can check out the names n you can leave messages. Now I’ve been listing any graduates of BHS not just 63’. There is also a Babylon Alumni site.
