Anita's Story

Life Hey Stranger! I have 2 kids, 3 grandkids & just welcomed the 4th on 4/16/08. My son Jason & his family just moved to Carlsbad, CA. He is a software developer for Sony Online Entertainment. My daughter lJeana ives in the Puget Sound area of Washington with her son. She works at Ft Lewis Public Affairs. I am a regional VP for Hallmark Rehab. After taking the long way around, changing majors in college several times I ended up getting my master's in occupational therapy. I started out majoring in music back at Skyline College right after graduaing from SSF High. It drove my mother to the brink of madnesss thinking I would never get a decent job with a degee in music. So I relucantly changed my major to Administration of Justice which required a transfer to CSM where I graduated with an AA degree. I figured I wanted to be a detective, never really wanted to be a police officer but knew you had to go through all that to get to detective. So from CSM I transfered down to Fresno State to get a BS in Criminology. The only problem was that I had already discovered that no police dept in the state would hire me due to my petite size. The laws had just changed and it was no longer ok to discriminate employment based upon gender. So the PDs all had requirements to try to eliminate females on other criteria, like you had to be at least 6' tall, or weigh 185#, or be able to lift 220# over your head. So I selected the Probation & Parole track of Criminology at CSUF & hated every minute of every class. After 3 semesters I decided to "take a semester off" which again drove my mother almost to the brink. I got married, had 2 kids & that 'semester off' turned into 11 years. I couldn't figure out what to get a degree in, nothing had sounded interesting other than music (this was my poor little brain telling me that I would never really LIKE to work a regular job). I ended up in Tacoma WA working at OB/GYN at Madigan Army Medical C...Expand for more
enter & I decided a career in a medical field sounded interesting; I finally completed my BS degree & went on for the master's degree in occupational therapy. (For those of you who have never heard of that it is like physical therapy.) Nathan & I reconnected on classmates.com 7 yrs ago after being apart since 1975. We have lived Manteca 5 years & have had a blast out here. We love the HOT weather & sunshine; we spend a lot of time watching movies & having a beer by the pool. I love nostalgia, seeing & hearing things that take me back in time. I love architecture & could make a vacation of just wandering around looking at great old bldgs in different cities & countries. My favorite era is the art deco area, for bldgs, furniture, clothing, cars, music...everything. I travel a lot with my current job, though it is all within CA right now which I like. Not crazy about airplanes (however once you take a long Amtrak trip it pretty much cures your fear of planes). In my free time I love to visit with family & friends, do interior design projects & sing in a local band. I really enjoy political history books (who knew?) and consider myself totally anit-war, anti-violence, very green and bodaciously liberal. I'm still a vegetarian. I have 2 cats & 1 bird - she's really a person in a bird suit, I"m convinced. My constant battle is fighting the clock, someone keeps turning up the speed on it & I find it quite irritating. Gravity is also becoming the enemy. When in Washington I try to visit my old friend from Parkway, Emily Johnson, & every time we see each other we say "how did this happen? how did we get to be this age?' in our minds we are still 13 and heading down to the 7-11 on El Camino & Holly to get a Slurpee. Would I do it all again? Yep! I've had a great life & if I could hit the rewind button & relive so many great moments I would; delete a few scenes though... "life's like an hourglass glued to the table"... Peace Anita
