Anita's Story

I attended East Platte Elementary, Platte City R3 7th - 10th and Smithville High School 11th - 12th. The bonus is I have double the friends and memories. After having been widowed and single for twenty years a soul mate waltzed into my life. Low and behold it was Randy Colvin, a classmate from Smithville High School. Randy and I had never dated or spent any time with one another during those years. We connected at our 40th class reunion and found we had common interests and started chatting, which lead to an email friendship and the next year we were happily married surrounded by friends and family. What neither of us had shared with the other, until after six months of email letters, was that we both were asking for and seeking a spiritual partner. Never doubt the forces of the universe to bring you exactly what (or who) you ask for, exactly when it is meant to be; TIMING IS EVERYTHING! Randy and I reside in Osborn. I love the farm and learn a new aspect of being a farmer’s wife almost everyday. I have now helped work cows, carried new calves to the barn (while on the back of a truck, usually in the rain or snow), cared for the horses, helped bale hay and straw, helped to repair fences, kill weeds, grow vegetables, learned to drive a four wheeler, a tractor and a truck while pulling a bale lifter (my job while putting up straw - which is much better than throwing bales!)... I have broken a leg and a wrist during some of my lessons... I could go on and on but many of you already know the list of things one must know and are aware of the list of things I still need to learn. We are very happy and feel very blessed to have found each other at exactly the right time. The grandchildren are one of our greatest joys! I have six grandchildren, four boys and two girls. Randy has two grandchildren; a girl and a boy. We enjoy having all 8 at the farm as much as possible. My six grandchildren spend the better part of their summers and as many of their breaks as possible being farm kids. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to expose them to a different way of life than what they are accustomed. We have Fred, Cooper and Rocky; our very large four-legged family members; along with a cat that knows she is the Queen of everything and some out door cats. Our menagerie also includes bees, horses and cows. I adopted Second Creek Church Cemetery and have since founded and organized an incorporated Cemetery into the Second Creek Cemetery Association that will assure the cemetery will be cared for not only during our lifetime but for many to follow. It keeps me busy physically and mentally. I have enjoyed the challenges of creating a “not for profit” incorporation and all the trimmings that...Expand for more
go with making a cemetery legal and beautiful. Thank goodness I love research because it has taken a great deal searching, reading and studying. I'm very fortunate to have a wonderful husband that helps with this huge project that I got him into and with no complaints. With my passion for researching and my added free time, it has also allowed me to work on both Randy's and my family trees; it has been a very enlightening experience for both of us. I enjoy writing, reading, photography and working in my garden. It is such a joy to have someone with whom to share and enjoy life, adventures and the out of doors. I love to learn new things and hope that never changes. I have so much yet to learn about farm life and so many other subjects… I am certainly going to enjoy and treasure every moment. Employment My education and training is in Nursing Science and I have worked and taught as a nurse, but took the education and experience into Aviation. I flew as a TWA flight attendant / Flight Service Manager. After the death of my husband I returned to aviation as a ground school instructor and later became the Director of Trauma Response for a regional airline; where I wrote a disaster plan, a manual, trained a team and integrated it with five major carriers. I have taught in most of my career choices. I found, at least at the time, that I had a proclivity for and enjoyed sales. I took my training expertise and became a contracted trainer for a few years which took me to diverse companies all over the US. I discovered my niche was Real Estate and Property Management. I became the Director of Training and Recruitment for a Real Estate Company and later a large property management company. The company sold to an out of state company and I went to work for a newspaper and unfortunately that company also came to a sad end. If you need your company to be bought, you might consider hiring me, so far it has worked for several companies, including TWA. I now work from the comfort of my home in the middle of our farm as a Care Coordinator / Compliancy manager for a Mental Health Practice. I love having a job that I enjoy and never have to get in a car and fight traffic, not to mention my work environment is peaceful and I am surrounded by my dogs. I would love to hear from any one from school days, my childhood or who may have attended school with one of my siblings. My brother David graduated Platte City High in 1963, my sisters graduated from Smithville in 1958 (Mary) and 1961 (Lillie). I attended East Platte from K-6th, Platte City 7th-10th and was delighted and very fortunate to be able to attend Smithville for my 11th-12th grades and graduated in 1970.
