School
My buddies were Rina and Delmy Quijano, Mario, Freddy, Arnold, Cesar.... Manuel Ibarra...
Rina, Delmy and I had loads of fun because we had the craziest sense of style. Especially going through all the different fads: Disco was still hanging on by a string, New Wave, Rockabilly. We were very popular because of that, or so we thought. From '82-'83 my high school sweetheart was Mauricio Jovel. It had its bitter sweet moments but never the less it was a learning experience.
To me Belmont was "thee party school". The dances were fun, the cruising around the school (I know you remember) was a party in itself. Rumors were going around about how Belmont was the place to hang out and party when school was over. I remember kids from other schools, coming over to see what the big fuss was all about. People that had graduated already or were like in their 20's would still come over to hang out or cruise by with their motorcycles or their latest car (Karmen Ghia, BMW, Volks BUG, etc..) Blasting the DISCO or the latest dance music.
People flirting with each other. Girls making sure they were wearing the latest trends and looking hot yet decent for those times. The guys with their jackets and their GQ haircuts smelling like Paco Rabanne and Drakkar, looking cool.
Even DJs like the Teddy Boys would swing by with their Vespas and their Beemers looking as arrogant as can be as they passed out their flyers. Oh, & lets not forget those sweet little girls from Loretto Catholic High School & Bishop that would cruise in their rabbits (um, yea right).
After school, I'd hang out with people like Esmeralda (Esmy),Edna, Dennis the Menace, Victor (salsa), Jose Cordova(our Patriarch) who had the quickest wit about him & would just crack me and everybody up.

aduated or just plain moved on. But, the good thing was that we all continued to see each other or run in to each other as the years went by. Then it was the good ol' days at Florentine Gardens, Casa Camino Real, Brandys, DQ's, Gino's (remember when it got busted?). It was great! It was like going to a school dance. We all hung out at the same clubs. Then, I disappeared for about 3 years. Nobody knew this about me back in school but, I also went to a modeling agency/acting school so I did a lot of fashion shows at malls and print work for hair salons. So in those 3 years I did some more modeling on the side besides having a regular job. Even my closest friends at the time like Suzy & Maria Palencia didn't know this about me. I also discovered the underground clubs through friends I met at work & Brandy's (nightclub). I finally got tired of that scene, and resurfaced. Once I became legal to party at the regular clubs, it was CIRCUS BABY! It was like going to a school reunion for me. I was like wow there's everybody I knew from high school. It was surreal.
People knew me back then as being Salvadorean American but, what I kept from everybody is that not only am I Salvadorean I'm also Greek. Not that I wasn't proud to be Greek, I just felt like nobody would care to know and the few people I did tell they treated me different so I didn't bother to mention it anymore. Actually, only one person was cool about it. Others didn't believe me and thought that I was trying to make myself look better as some ignorant people put it. I went through school using my mom's maiden name (Marmol) because when I started kindergarten the school district didn't want to bother with my real last name. Don't know... It's only 13 letters long, lol.
Well, I hope I was able to bring back some good old memories.
