Anne's Story
Life
Where to start? After graduating from East, I attended UW Madison, majoring in Fashion Design. But the summer of my junior year I got married, and realized I wasn't heading for NY and the fashion world after all. So I took all my electives the following year in journalism, and tried to find a job as an editor. Not finding one right away, I went on to grad school, also at UW-Madison, majoring in Communications.
My next move took me to the Quad Cities, a Mississippi River community straddling the Iowa-Illinois border, where we settled in Davenport, Iowa. Our plan was to live there two years and move on - -but as you all know, life happens, and I ended up living there for 30 years. Practically a native. While my kids therefore considered themselves "Hawkeyes," our daughter attended UW-Madison, and now works for the Milwaukee's largest newspaper, as a copy editor. So she's become a Badger, after all. ndidates, as well as three UI bowl games.
My first job was as a media buyer for an advertising agency, and after that I skipped around a bit, gathering various kinds of experience: selling insurance, working as a copywriter, a personnel management consultant, a video producer, marketing director, and public relations counselor -- plus a few years as a stay-at-home Mom.
For the past 12 years I have owned a PR and marketing firm that specializes in the use of interactive technology, and my company has designed web sites, helped clients market their web sites, and such. (It has a very original name: Anne Holmes & Associates!)
The latest thing is that I am writing a book on how to be a Baby Boomer entrepreneur - plus there's a free newsletter and more. I am "the Boomerpreneur." Also, I do a lot of coaching - helping people start on-line businesses. I'm affiliated with the Mike Litman organization in that regard.
On the personal side, my second husband and I have been married for 17 years -- and we love to travel -- especially cruises. I'm working on a plan for an around the world cruise that will be a business deduction.
