Anne-Marie's Story
Life
I've been living in Boulder, Colorado since 1994. I have a one-year-old son and will be celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary in July. I missed our 10 year reunion when I was on my honeymoon in Alaska.
School
My favorite teacher was Keith Stewart, Jr. High drafting. He listened and didn't judge during a time when I needed that the most.
My best times were spent with Colleen Ball. She always made me laugh and feel like I could be myself no matter what.
Some of my toughest moments were spent after school in track practice. Its not easy being slow! "No pain, no gain"--right? It felt more like "Pain, no gain" to me. But now, 20 years later, I am seeing the benefits of those 5 seasons of track practice. Living in one of the most athletic towns in the country provides lots of opportunities to train with great coaches and participate in awsome races. I'm still slow, but not afraid to get out and do it.
College
I graduated from Ohio State with a BA in Sociology and went on to Law School at Capital University. After 7 years is Columbus I was tired of being freezing in the winter and too hot in the summer and living under a blanket of clouds. I immediately took off to beautiful, sunny, Boulder, CO to settle down at the base of the peaceful Flatirons. My carreer in ...Expand for more
law was not my dream job, so I went back to school to study audio engineering. (This was my original major at Ohio State but I chickened out! I should have taken more music classes in high school. Oh well.) School really is more meaningful when you're a little older. This was by far my favorite school experience. It was strange to be in my 30's and be mistaken for a 19-year-old all the time. What a trip! One of my favorite classmates was Isaac Slade of The Fray. He was definitely the class clown! I made some great friends during that time and was surrounded by amazing talent. The hours were long and the commute sucked, but I'd do it all again!
I feel like a professional student after all this. I never thought I liked school that much to keep going back for more. Maybe it was the "have to" part I didn't like. Its different when you're there by choice and you really want to learn. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to do it.
Workplace
Currently I work in my husband's financial planning office. Its not exactly my dream job, but its HIS dream job. Since I haven't had much luck discovering the perfect career for myself, I might as well help him go for his career goals. Its been challenging at times, but mostly very rewarding. And isn't that what its all about?
