Annette's Story
College
Well, I attended Dominican University of California (formerly Dominican College), and graduated in May 1995 with a B.A. in Psychology. I had a very great learning experience, meeting many people & making new friends!
Workplace
In 2002, I've been doing short-term, contract jobs assisting different offices in various industries. It was unfortunate that none of them became something more permanent. Then, I got this really cool position as a T-H (the try before you buy deal) as office administration support... Administrative Assistant at one of the biggest construction companies, Swinerton. After working many hours on contract, I changed over to employee status!! Woohoo! I'm currently with the Swinerton Management and Consulting, Inc. family. I love my job! I was told that there's a career path down the road, and I get to pick! Looks like I found a great place to work afterall! Will keep you all posted!...Update: The SF Business Times conducted a survey about the Best Places to Work in the SF Bay Area, and Swinerton was ranked as #2 on the list! How about that? Well, late 2004 wasn't a good financial year for the management group in the SF office, so there was a little down-sizing. As a result of the company re-structuring, I lost my job and got laid off...This year in 2005, I'm currently doing contracting work while looking for something more permanent...Wherever I end up working, I hope my next position will be as enjoyable as my experience at SMC! Update (Nov. 2005): I've just started a new job (T-P), working at one of Swinerton's competitors, Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company as their Plan Room Coordinator! So far, all's well! I'm enjoy...Expand for more
ing the work! Yay, I kept hoping that I'll find something prior to the holidays, and apparently...Santa granted my wish! Update (March 2006): Turned out someone with more experience and background in architecture & construction was hired, so my contract came to an end. I'm now looking for my next challenge! One thing's for sure: I'd like to stay within the construction industry, cuz ever since I worked for one, I enjoyed learning about the industry! However, if something else comes along, I can always return to the construction field later in life, right? Hope it won't take too long! Update (6/06): I'm currently at an architectural company, Anshen+Allen Architects..doing project team support. My title there is studio support assistant. Apparently, I got my wish as I wanted to stay w/in the industry. With my strong admin skills & construction industry experience, I really feel I'll be there for quite some time. I enjoy the variety of work, great team to work with & other co-workers! ...
Update (12/10): Since I can't update the "My Work Communities", I'll say it here: After leaving PG&E in 07/09 as a contract employee, due to budget cuts, I found work as a contractor in 03/10...working at The Hornblower Cruises & Events, doing customer service for several months...it was a fun job, working on a yacht. No, I didn't get seasick, as their corporate office is located on a boat. Since 10/10, I've been contracting at a pharmaceutical company, United BioSource Corporation, doing administrative work. As the economy is still in pretty bad shape & hope things will improve, I'm hanging in there...hoping I'll find a "work" home soon in the New Year! Let's hope so!
