Anthony's Story
Military
So much to say and so little space. Well, if you want to know more, just drop me a line. I spent 7 1/2 years in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout. Here's a list of duty stations and accomplishments.
Before I forget. If there's anyone out there wondering what's a Cavalry Scout, here's a brief answer for you. A Cavalry Scout is the eyes and ears of a battle. Their job is to go out and find the enemy. We weren't fighters, we were observers. Locate the enemy then pass their coordinates on to our command. We also had secondary specialties including; demolition, security patrols and calling for indirect fire(Artillery). Now on to the list.
Basic Training
*Ft Knox, KY Jan-May 94'
DUTY STATIONS:
*Ft Polk, LA May 94'- Oct 95
*Vilseck, Germany Oct 95'- Aug 00'
*Ft Stewart, GA Aug 00'- Aug 01'
DEPLOYMENTS:
*Macedonia 1996
*Kosovo 1999 - 2000
*Bosnia 2001
AWARDS AND DECORATIONS:
*The Soldier's Medal(Valorous actions in a ...Expand for more
non-combat situation)
*(2) Army Accomodation Medals
*(7) Army Achievement Medals
*Rettungs Medalie (German award awarded by the President of Bavaria for valorous actions. At the time of the award, only around 2,000 medals had been awarded, dating back to the 1700's)
*Various awards and decorations from Army Service to Deployment Ribbons and including NATO Awards.
All in all, I've seen my fair share of action. That's why I decided to get out. I did as much for this country as I possibly could. But all the memories I have and friends that I made while serving is more than one person could ask for. And for that I thank God for giving me the courage and strength to serve my country. 7 1/2 years sounds like a long time. But as the adage goes: "Time flies when you're having fun".
Maybe I should've made it a career. But I'm happy where I'm at today and wouldn't change anything for the world. It was a time in my life that I'll cherrish forever.
