Anthony's Story
Well, what can I say about Milford High School- a magical carpet ride in time that I hoped would have never ended. So many good times- so many good friends. Whether it was going green and planting a tree or protesting government policies with the hippies; playing chess with the brainy nerds; battling it out on the gridiron with the jocks; or wearing featherweight shoes and a black leather jacket and hanging around with the greasers, I was a friend to all. I could cheer you up with my humor when you were down or show compassion when you were feeling pain. I could be a leader to those who had a low self- esteem and no confidence in themselves into achieving a higher potential or I could stay in the background and let those who were more aggressive take charge. The appearance of a person had no effect on my feelings toward them whether it was a physical handicap, a learning disability, or even wearing clothes that weren't trendy or didn't match( whatever the case). I saw the beauty in each and every person I met and I loved them all and hopefully they loved me in return. Everything went smooth for the first three years until that dreaded senior year. I knew that at the end of the year we would all be saying our good-byes to one another and go our seperate ways- I always hated change. I quit playing football and completely gave up on my academics. I went from a 3.4 quality point average to almost not graduating. I was so sure I was going to war to fight the Viet- Cong. I didn't even mail out my college applications until nearly the end of the year and that was only because my mother found them hidden in my sock drawer. So, onward I journeyed to the University of New Haven( New Haven College) at the time. College to me seemed like such a waste of time and my parent's money. I worked a hell of a lot harder in High School....Expand for more
I majored in Business(Marketing) because I figured it was the easiest thing to take. No attendance was required in class and the teachers even gave you the questions that were going to be on the tests. All you had to do was write the answers out at home and memorize them. So, I hung around the cafeteria a lot and perfected my card playing skills. I only went to class for mid-terms and finals. I sill wanted to go to war though. I even wrote the government and dropped my school deferment and became eligible for the draft lottery- but still no luck. It's probably better that I didn't go- I probably wouldn't have come back. I would have been the soldier charging over the hill without a weapon screaming(Chahunda) our football war cry. Well, I got my B.S. degree and then I couldn't find a job because I had no work experience(What a joke). My brother at the time was a manager at Frito-Lay so I was helping him unload trailers during a union strike. His boss liked my effort and offered me a full time position- I stayed 30 years. I had a few long-term relationships through the years with beautiful women but with each one something just seemed to be missing. That is until I met Joy, a nurse from the Philippines. It was as if Cupid shot an arrow in my ass. I finally had found my true soulmate. We had a short courtship and I finally married at 46 years of age(my mother never thought that she would see the day). I have two beautiful daughters, Alyssa-11 and Ashley-8. Check them out on my photo album. Well, I guess that's it for now but you haven't heard the last of me. I'll be posting a lot of comments from time to time and try to get all of you involved in give and takes. So, good-bye for now classmates and in the words of Guy Ortoleva who signed my yearbook to the greatest kid at M.H.S. love, peace, and happiness to all of you.
