Ariana's Story
During the last two years of high school, I "commuted" back and forth between Los Angeles and Athens (Greece) where my Dad and his family were living due to the highway construction project he oversaw. After June 1970, I remained there for an extra 6 mos. returned to L.A. in time for the '71 earthquake, and got the heck out of LA after that (back to Athens for my first year of college). It was an idyllic time 1971-1972. Then transferred to the University of Missouri (Columbia) as a transfer student in Journalism and Persuasive Speaking/Promotion. Thereafter, to the University of Colorado (Boulder) to wind up the undergraduate degree in Journalism - PR/Features. In between, more traveling -- to Tehran (where the family then was, Dad working on a paper pulp mill at the Caspian Sea during the waning days of the Shah's rule), Spain/Costa del Sol for a month, London ...Expand for more
for a visit with my mother who had emigrated there in '72. Upon graduation, went with the instinct to be adventurous as I always had been, nomad that I am in spirit, and headed to New England for a new chapter (1977). Between advertising, broadcast radio sales, taking on a promotion campaign on my own initiative (then marrying my 'client' after two years), then group tours/travel until the TWA hostage crisis in 1985 put an end to most travel plans. Switched over to public service (state legislature) where I took on a spectrum of projects from speechwriting, to organizing local events, to press releases/media relations, and handling hospitality receptions for VIP groups, it brings me to the present...compelled more by travel and the world beyond classroom doors than by acquiring degrees, I am indeed and still, the Renaissance individual I have always been at heart.
