Arlene's Story
I am a widow... Sounds strange to hear that, but thats what I am. I met my 2nd husband while working in Downtown Los Angeles as a receptionist for a law firm. We married 2 years after we met. My husband and I bought a home together and raised his 5 yr old son from his previous marriage. In 2003 my husband was diagnoised with throat cancer. We both battled his cancer together until his death in 2008. Soon after, I became my mother's caregiver until her death in 2012 at the age of 93. I then decided to take an early retirement from the Simi Valley Police Department after 13 yrs of service and I moved to Las Vegas to start a new life.
School
I have fond memories of high school and the 4 years of Arts & Crafts I took in Mrs. Jones' classes. I was in girls athletetics (GAA) starting my Sophmore year until graduation in 1975. I went to Citrus College for cosmetology right after high school and recv'd my cosmetology license in 1976.
Workplace
I worked as a receptionist in Downtown ...Expand for more
L.A. for about 20 yrs. where I met and married my second husband and moved from Covina to Simi Valley. I started working for the Simi Valley Police Department as a police services assistant and I'm proud to say that I worked the President Reagan funeral detail and received a certificate of appreciation from the Secret Service of Homeland Security for my participation.
Military
I went to Fort Jackson Army boot camp in South Carolina from March to April of 1978. I was in alpha company in the brick barracks across from the movie theatre. I was the squad leader for the 4th squad and the Alpha company driver.
After bootcamp I went to my AIT school at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IND. Where I met and married my first husband (a sailor) in August of 1978. I was in school for Legal Clerk training (71Delta) then decided to opt out of the military to be with my husband and we were divorced by 1980. I Would love to hear from anyone I met in either Fort Jackson or Fort Benjamin Harrison in 1978.
