Armand's Story

On July 7, 1974, one short month after graduation, I entered active duty in the USAF. I went to Basic Training in San Antonio, Texas then on to Technical School in San Angelo Texas. My first duty assignment was on the beautiful isle of Crete Greece. After spending 18 months on that beautiful island I took a month leave and came home to Cumberland. While on leave I had a major automobile accident and spent two months in the hospital. I was miraculously saved and declared fit for duty in November of 1976. I next went to Osan Air Base in the Republic of Korea. While I was in Korea I was medevaced to the Philippines for more surgery to try and repair the damage to my arm from the accident. After Korea I went to Fort Meade Maryland. While stationed in Fort Meade I met the most special person I had ever met. We fell in love and after her divorce we married. I found myself going from a single, carefree person to a marrie...Expand for more
d father of four children ranging in age from 3 to 9. After spending 8 years in Fort Meade we went to Rhein Main Germany. From there we went to Bolling AFB Washington DC. We stayed there for four years then I was again sent to Korea, without my family. After that year I was assigned to F. E. Warren AFB in Wyoming without my family. That was the last assignment as that completed my 20 year career. We then moved to Ohio where I spent years seeking what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I finally settled in banking and spent 10 years in that industry. I was then granted permanent disability through SSDI. We moved to New Mexico and then Wichita Falls Texas where we hope to spend the rest of our lives. I have been blessed with a great and lasting relationship with all of my children and my six grand-daughters. My wife and I now spend our time on our 7 acres growing toward self-sufficiency and living a green life.
