Art's Story

November 2009 (Edited and spell checked in August 2010) Somewhere, a long way down the . Last year, my brother, Chris, sent me a copy of the 1967 "El Spiritus" yearbook. Back then I used to entertain myself by imagining you all naked. At last, my memories of you are now clothed in jackets and ties or those adorable satin gowns. I can almost smell the Brill Cream and hairspray. I still ask myself, "Who are these people"? Did I have intimate contact with them? What humiliating faux pas did I commit? Where are my glasses? Do I owe anyone money? Does anyone owe me money? Now I am trying to imagine you as old, overweight, loose skinned, balding and no more able to recall who I was than where you left your keys. It will be even harder to remember me because my picture doesn't even appear in the '67 yearbook. Maybe it was my long hair which prevented the administration from allowing my image to dirty their precious periodical. (After all, I don't see any pictures of you guys sporting rock locks.) More likely, I was just playing hooky. Either way, you are probably stuck with your sartorially unattired memory of me. My apologies. It's been a long and winding... cliche. Its true that I've had more jobs than I've had shoes. My career finally peaked in the 90's after a ten year stint as publisher and marketing director/consultant with KCET (PBS). If you were ever a member, then you probably got something I produced. Again, my apologies. In 1995 we moved the family to Vashon Island, Washington, where we shared fences with horses, goats, various yardbirds and asso...Expand for more
rted species of pets or meat. It was my wife Tania's idea. I've never quite forgiven her for taking me away from the California sunshine. (She married me in '81 for the green card and I married her for the sex. We no longer need either now, but we keep each other warn in this miserable weather.) Since that time, most of the animals have been eaten and replaced with vineyards. Our daughter, Chloe, graduated from Western Washington and has started her own fashion design business on Maui; something called "Love Stoned." Our son, Chris, graduated from Syracuse in '94 and is now building corporate web sites and wishing he'd majored in musical theatre. My mid-life crisis ended when I discovered that wine is more dependable than women. I now spend far too much time in the plant kingdom and playing with yeast and adult size chemistry sets in the hope (vanity, really) that Pt. Robinson Vineyards will someday make a splash in someone's glass besides my own. I hope all of you have found bliss at least once in you life, although its harder to hang on to than a bar of soap. May we'll find it again before it slips down the drain. I used to imagine that life was long. But now that we're on the back side, I realize that we have no time to waste. Just in case you do remember me, you can find me hanging out at the farm; or at the usual networking sites; or cycling through Washington Wine Country or in rehab. Please write if you've found happiness or an old IOU. I would love to hear from anyone I shared friends, food or saliva with. You know who you are. Don't you?
