Art's Story
Life
I graduate high school in 1988 in June without a plan after 9 months of no plan wild life and a couple close calls with the authorities I decided I needed to get out so I joined the Marines in April 89.
I went into the Security Forces in the Marines and spent 18 months living in London and 2 years in the Infantry. While in London I had a blast and actually met my wife Sam and we have been together for 14 years now. Once I was transfered back to the Fleet Marine Force I was assigned to Alpha Company 1st Battalion 4th Marines. While with Alpha Company became a coxswain for small boat raids. I also completed one deployment with them and got to see ;Okinawa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubia, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Kenya and Austrailia, I enjoyed some of these experiences more than others.
I left the Marines in 93 having done my best and running as fast as I could. If I had learned anything from it, it was that I was not cut out for a career in the Corps.
Once I was discarged from the Marines my wife and I moved back to the Seattle area. Once here I got a job in a Warehouse and spent a coupel of years trying to readjust to civilian life. I went to Edmonds Community College and got my Associates in Engineering and then went to work for Boeing right before the huge lay-offs began. I made it about ...Expand for more
a year at Boeing before getting laid off and worked a little bit on my Bachelors in Engineering, which I have never finished. Based on my experiences at Boeing I didn't know if Engineering was the way I wanted to go.
Fortunately the Dot-Com bubble was just building up and I got a Job as a SQL Database Administrator and taught myself Microsoft SQL. Since the Dot-Com bubble popped I have worked for a Electronic Evidence Discovery company (I read other peoples e-mail) and Microsoft. Do I know it all, nope, does it matter, nope.
While bouncing around in the IT world my wife and I managed to have two wonder kids, Isaac born 11/13/99, and Georgia born 7/8/02. Both present great challenges to me daily as I am now a stay at home Dad.
I 2004 I decided I had had enough of the Computer world and decided to start my own Business. In the course of that I decided to mix two things that I love, Cooking and Gardening. We purchased 24 acres in Alrington Washington and I am working to reclaim and restore the land so that I can grow a couple acres of Organic Vegatables and a small Orchard for the Preserves, Chutney's and Hot Sauces that I make.
It's not an easy or glamourous gig, but I get to spend time with my children and do something I like with the hope of making money doing it in the future.
