Arthur's Story

Life My Freshmen year was spent at Morris College in Sumter, S.C. from 1970 - 1971. Summer of 1971,a student at The Citadel. Fall 1971, I transfered to Texas College in Tyler, Texas where I graduated December 1975 with a BA Degree in Music Education. January 1976 I enrolled in Graduate School at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where I worked on a Masters Degree in Music Education. August 1978 until October 1981 I taught at Texas College as Choir Director and Instructor of Music. My last year there, I became the Admissions Counselor. October 1981 until June 2001 I retired from the United States Army Band. Presently I am Director of Bands at Fairway Middle School in Killeen, Texas. Selected into Who's Who's in America 2004. Organizations are: Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfornia Professional Music Fraternity, AEAONMS, A Mason 32nd Degree, Life Member of the National Guard Association of Texas, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Texas Band Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, Veterans of Foreign Wars, NAACP,United States Takwondo Union, World Kido Association, 2nd Dan Taekwondo registered in Kukkiwon -Seoul,Korea. School I was a member of the concert choir, choral ensemble, marching band, stage band, Bohemians Social Club, Band Club. The choir produced two Broadway productions, "M...Expand for more
y Fair Lady", where I was the Butler and in the choir scene. "Hello Dolly", I played Barnaby Tucker and got Best Supporting Actor Award. I made Junior All-State Band at South Carolina State College (then)1970 and received a scholarship. Received a 1 Rating on my solo for choir all-state. Was an original member of the "Soul Variations Show Band". We performed throughout Charleston and surrounding areas. The "Soul Variations" played for a dance at South Carolina State College. That was a big event for a high school student. I was a member of the original Sing-Out Charleston, from 9th - 12th grades, this was the local group for "Up WithPeople". Military Auditioned with CW2 Edward Green at 1st Cav Div Band at Fort Hood, TX. Went to Basics on Tank Hill, Fort Jackson, SC and became Squard Leader, then Head Squard Leader. Became the Soldier of the Month for the C-5-1 Company and the Battalion. Graduated and went to AIT at the Armed Services School of Music at Little Creek, Norfolk, VA. Became Squard Leader. First assignment with 1st Cav Div Band from Oct 9, 1982 - July 1989, then assigned to 2nd Inf Div Band at Camp Casey, Korea. Returned to 1st Cav Band one year later and in time for "Operation Desert Shield" and "Operation Desert Storm" the Gulf War. Stayed for six months and returned to a hero's welcome with parades in New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, Texas, Austin,Texas and other cities. Retired 1 June 2001 from 1st Cav Div Band.
