Arthur's Story
Though I've been a member of classmates for sometime I have not taken the time to communicate with with our class of '67. However recently my brother, Steve, returned from his 50th reunion, class of ' 62, and when he told me of his experience, I was reminded of long and deep friendships. I also was also reminded that many of us went from first grade to graduation together. We knew each other through the many changes of growing up, with all the growing pains and joys of those years. So I decided it was time to share a bit with my first friends. I started my B.A. At Miami University in Ohio. After freshman year I Intransfered to Brandeis University where I graduated in 1971. I've been living in Eugene, Oregon since 1972. Began working in the Mental Health field in 1973. I worked my way up from a psychiatric technician to a Mental Health Therapist to head of the Therapy Team. In 1978 I quit work and traveled around Europe and saw a good deal of the art work I'd always wanted to see. In 1979 I began the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Oregon(UofO) in sculpture. I received my MFA in August 1982 and made sculpture(mostly bronze castings) for several years. In 1983 my marriage began and my wife and I lived in the country. Our first son, Sam, was born in 1985 and Gabe was born in 1988. The life of an artist didn't pay the way for me and I went back to school and earned a Ph.D. In Counseling Psychology in August 1991. As a psychologist I have had a p...Expand for more
rivate practice since then. For seven years I ran a multidisciplinary pain management program and was president of two different organizations. In the last year I've cut down to three days a week which allows me to continue working but gives me more time to pursue other interests. In 2005 my marriage ended in divorce. I've been involved in a relationship for the last several years. Oregon has been a great place for me. When I was younger I became a mountain climber and climbed many peaks in the Northwest in Oregon, Calfornia, Washington and Idaho. My best friend and I ran rivers and enjoyed the great outdoors. At 26 I took up long distance running at first to enhance climbing but I've never stopped running and I stopped doing technical climbing after my boys were around five. The risks began to seem to great. Running continues to suit me. I've lost all my running partners over the years except for one friend. I suppose that's a pretty good outline of my life for those who might have an interest in how things turned out. I did see Lance Ahern and his wife Liz at my 60th birthday party in Las Vegas. As I mentioned the beginng of this story my brother Steve(class of 62) went to his 50th reunion last year and had a great time and recommended that it would be fun for the class of '67 too. So if anyone gets this far in reading my story perhaps we can begin to create that opportunity for ourselves. Contact me and let's see what we can do! My best to you all! Arthur
