Arthur's Story
Military
Joined the Navy with guarantees of training in electronics, submarines, nuclear power and a chance to be commissioned as an officer if I chose to compete in that direction later. They kept their promises and I kept mine:
- I became an electronics technician, qualified in submarines and then as a nuclear reactor operator.
- Was commissioned as an officer after serving in enlisted pay grades from E-1 to E-8 and then served on two destroyers as a Tactical Action Officer (TAO) and Electr...Expand for more
onic Material Officer (EMO).
- served on an old WWII diesel submarine for about a year and got qualified in submarines initially aboard the USS Sea Owl SS405. Then served as a ractor operator on USS Shark SSN 591 and USS Scamp SSN 588.
- after commissioning I served on USS Henry B. Wilson DDG-7 and then USS Paul F. Foster DD 964.
- Retired after 21+ years in 1983.
I have been managing high technology teams of folks since then for such companies as Unisys, Scientific Atlanta and now SAIC.
