Arthur's Story
Life
Hello! Classmates. I hope everyone is in good health and enjoying life. What did I do after graduation. I was unable to take advantage of a wrestling scholarship due to poor planning on my part. I enrolled at Hartnell and complete my first year. I enrolled for my sophomore year, when out of the blue sky I surprise everyone by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in June of 1978. I was going to school full time and working part-time, but couldn't continue living under my Father's roof. I had a nice car, but my biggest problem was not making enough money to get my own place. The best answer for me at that time was to move on and get out on my own. I completed 6 years active duty (June 1987-June 1984)and 3 years reserve duty as a Hull Technician / Shipboard Firefighter. It turns out to be the best decision in my young adult life. I enjoyed my experience in the Navy, making new friends, traveling, maturing, learning a skill as a firefighter/welder. While stationed on the Island of Guam on the USS Proteus AS-19, I met and married my girlfriend Marie Duenas on July 18, 1981. We have 5 kids. Right from the start we had twin boys Arthur Jr. and Frankie who are 28 years old now. The twins recieved their BA Degree from Mesa State College in Colorad...Expand for more
o. They were both on a football scholarship. They were staters at the cornerback position. Our 26 year-old daughter Dorena is working fulltime as a dental assistant and attending Hartnell part-time. Vernon is 24 year-old and attending Hartnell too. Yes! He was named after my wrestling coach and adopted stepfather Vernon Baxter. Believe it or Not! We started all over again with our newborn daughter Rayanne Nashelle. She is 10 years old now and in four grade. We have lived in Soledad since February of 1990. The move to Soledad has been a blessing. My wife Marie, has been working as a Postal Carrier in Soledad for the past 13 years now. I was a Salinas Firefighter for 17 years (February 1985 to May of 2002). I received a medical retirement in May 2002. I truly miss my old firefighter job. But life go on. I have once again been blessed with another wonderful job. I now work for the Soledad School District working with special Ed. students. I also referee high school basketball throughout Monterey County as a side job and get a little physical activity. I have met a few of our classmates here and there. ThatÃÂs all for now, take care and God bless you and your family. If you are interested in contacting me, just look in the phone book.
