Arthur's Story
Life
The summer of 1967 was the perfect year to graduate. I almost joined the Navy Seals however bad knees kept me out. I joined the peace movement, traveled to California a few times. Explored the US some and then went to college. Md. U first but hated it. I became a dental technician after completing a two year program at Montgomery College, which led me to the art of sculpture and the study of Art. I went back to Montgomery College in 77' to study Art and music composition with the intent to create original animations with original music. I became a professional photographer in 1980 and began teaching Photography and videography at Prince Georges Community College Continuing Ed. Dept. in 1982 to 1995. During that time I showed many of my photographs in galleries in Washington D.C. and Annapolis Md. Many of my photographs have been published in an internationally distributed magazine. During the years after highschool I wrote many poems and still dabble. Several of my poems have been published and printed in special edition hard back books sold throughout the U.S. Canada and Europe. When I married and moved to Harpers Ferry WV. photography and creating original art works which are offered in local galleries and on line. The best thing that ever happened in my life was the birth of my now 11 year old son who is way better behaved than I was ans is a constant joy in my life. My wife Melanie is 13 years younger and quite beautiful. I've been very lucky in that part of my life.
I began kayaking, living about a quarter of a mile off the Shennandoah River and almost drowned at least three times when I dared to go during flood stage levels. Lucky for me I can hold my breath for a long time. The last, and I mean last experience I had was in a Shredder which is a type of raft for two people. We went into a hole at the bottom of a water fall. I found myself standing at the bottom of the river looking up at the raft caught in the hole. I was quickly yanked back up to the surface and was able to get to some rocks where I dove back into the raft when it came out of the hole. My friend suffered a dislocated shoulder trying to stay in the raft while it was tossed around in the rapids. We got back, got my friend to the hospital and lived happily ever after. I now stick to streams and low water levels.
