Ashley's Story
While in South Africa with Crossroads Community Church (CCC), we were invited to spend an evening with a host family. This particular family was unique. There are five sisters, one of which is a pastor. All are very much involved with Charity & Faith Mission, our sister church in Mamelodi, S.A. I was staying with one of the sisters for my host night and she surprised me by taking me to her sister's house for a Bar-B-Que. I was then reunited with about 20 other fellow friends from CCC as all five sisters were being of service by hosting and brought all their guests together for a surprise. I also had two young men from Indian Hill H.S. that were part of our CSM and was their chaperon during our experience living in the town for a night. It was much fun. Our main objective was to connect them to Charity & Faith so they could worship and also receive social work assistance including access to certain avenues CCC helped create (library, IT room, hospice, orphanage). This trip was my first missionary trip and I pray not my last.....I would love to hear stories from any of my classmates with regard to any experiences you might have had in other countries. Remember Mr. Wheeler? He used to stress to us to always travel if we had the chance because of the experience. I appreciate those words today even more.......
Remember Mr. Miller in the 8th grade? He always used to say something to the effect like what we see can be distorted. Today I look at this in several different ways. What I perceive to be reality is not necessarily your perception too. What I see can be totally distorted and may not be the "universal" reality of most people. But taking it one step further, because of this I can try to see things in a different light, view things in multiple views to try and understand others better. This is useful when applying it towards biases and prejudices I have which usually are nothing more than pride and ego submitting to an underlying fear...
