Audrey's Story
17 August 2015
Another grey day
but
there is relief in sight
We may be blessed
with temperatures
in the
high teens
laster this week
It's been
dreary
and
cold
this winter
and
I'm one of those
who is affected
by
the lack of sunshine
Sometimes
it is easier
to
sit and read
rather than
get motivated
Sometimes
I provide my motivation
On the other hand
maybe I need that grizzly bear
chasing me down the road
on my pushbike
or
the koala
I saw on FB
this morning
chasing a woman
on her quadbike
AND
catching her.
Mind you
she had to stop
she was herding the milk cows
down the lane
towards
barn
and
feedtime!
Turns out
koala wanted
nothing more
than
a hug with
quadbike back wheel.
hhhhhh
Surprise
Surprise
Spring!
Just around the corner
Jonquils
waving their heads
at me
Daffodils
dancing
Farmers happy
bountiful crops expected
All is good
Perfect weather
for
scanning photos
writing blogs
baking bread
sourdough
ciabatta
Winter appetites!
Kreepy Krawly
new addition li family pooll
Bit like
a robotic vacuum cleaner
teaches itself
the shape of pool!
How clever is that?
Fascinating to watch
Obviously....I am easily pleased
hhhhhh
Espresso time!
5 August 2015
I sit at my desk
gazing through the window panes
thinking how the weather
is such a
pain
Fifty shades of grey
clouds, that is
rain
rain
and more rain
Great for the farmers
great for the gardeners
great for the lawns
great for curling up with a
book
movie
cuppa
or
glass of wine
Eleven a.m.
and
skies grow darker
Wind increases
I love the fact that I am
inside
looking at the treadmill
:-)
I WILL go walking
in spite of the weather
Four rounds of chemotherapy are now completed
Two to go
Should the chemo not work for me
I'm looking forward to participating
in
drug trials for new mesothelioma meds
and/or
being able to use the new drug on the market
Keytruda
which was designed specifically for melanoma suffered
but
has been found to benefit mesothelioma cancer patients
as well.
My plan?
To out last the one or two years given me
and
benefit from the new drugs
All prayers are appreciated
Interested in following my mesothelioma journey
please contact me through Classmates
and
I will provide you with my website
I have a goal
visiting Wilton Iowa
next year
June 2016
before the old High School building
is
torn down
I really want to be part of the reunion
being planned
for
folk that graduated from
the old WHS building
If any of my WHS classmates are reading this blog
I'd love to see you there
as well
April 2015
More than six months since I've visited my page!
Much has happened in those six months
The last term of 2014 was taken up with editing the school's annual magazine
Once I got my head around what was necessary to publish an acceptable magazine
Life became stress free!
Actually
I loved putting that magazine together
I got to know the staff soooo much better
Days were filled with
laughter
concentration
focus (not quite the same thing as concentration)
and
then
Chritmas was upon us!
The Christmas break was so welcome
Early in the new year we hosted the first course of a Progressive Dinner for our congregation
My contribution
foodwise
was pull apart cheesey bread
(to die for)
roasted jalapeno peppers stuffed with sharp cheese and prosciutto
(again...to di...Expand for more
e for)
they were even good the day or two after
Ken was getting over a nasty virus, but managed to mingle with the crowd
School was underway again
Part way through term one Ken drove me to Melbourne
to spend the week with Nathan, Marjan and Shadi (pronounced Shahdee, which means joy, happines in Farsi)
while I was in Melbourne
Ken visited our Dr re a 'little' issue
by the end of the week he had seen three specialists, had a heart stress test, X-Rays, seen a cardiologist and was flown to Sydney for surgery.....he has had a quadruple bypass and R Carotid artery reamed out!
He was in Sydney before I returned to Wagga
Needless to say..I returned to Wagga and headed for Sydney
Now....Ken picked a good time!
This was Mardi Gras weekend in Sydney
Hotel bookings were as rare as hen's teeth
but
Dawn and I managed a room for 5 nights at the Arts Hotel on Oxford St
just a 5 minute walk from St Vincent's Hospital....where Ken was scheduled for his op
Dawn flew back to Brisbane on the Wednesday
by the Friday I was out of accommodation, as the Arts Hotel was booked out months before for the MG
A dear friend in the travel business found another hotel for me...a 15 minute walk, at Rushcutters' Bay
I had a glimpse of some of the participants in the MG parade.
A group of men and women standing outside a bar
close to the hotel I'd been staying in
the men dressed in gold lame body spray and gold "G" strings
and
gold bands circling their heads!
The women?
Fully dressed!
Must have been a gaggle of admirers!
Oh for my iPhone to be handy to take photos!
Ken was airlifted by air ambulance back to Wagga on the Monday,
I flew home same day
He had 8 weeks enforced rest
and
is now back at work full time
Looking and feeling ten years younger!
Four weeks later I visited our GP
Thinking I'd "put a rib out"
but no
I had no air in my left lung
it was surrounded by 60% fluid
I had just begun to feel breathless the two weeks before
thinking I was a little unfit after my lack of walking and pilates!
I woke up with a sharp pain
the night of 14 February!
That date will live in my memory forever
That was what I thought was a rib popping out
in fact
it was my lung collapsing!
Within a week I was checked by every specialist known to have thoracic specialties in Wagga
and then
I was in Sydney....getting to know that city fairly well now!
lung was drained of 1.5 L of fluid
radical biopsy showed that I have mesothelioma cancer of the lung
Why me?
Why not me!
I have had my first chemo treatment
So far I feel blessed with no real side effects that are usually associated with chemo
no nausea
no vomiting
no rashes
no metallic tasting food
Next chemo session is this Wednesday, 27 May
I am creating a blog in which I intend to track this journey of mine
If you are interested, please feel free to follow me there
I will share the ups and downs
my faith journey
my emotional journey
etc
the blog is not ready, but I hope within a week to have it completed
I wanted an address that would be easy to remember
(laughterbubbles)
and
because
when I have hit low spots in my life
(not too many of those)
and could feel myself 'coming up' again
it always felt as thought the bubbles in a glass of champagne were rising
that always led to happiness bubbling over
