Dan's Story
Life
After graduation I attended Mt. Sac. I graduated there and went to Cal State LA, where I majored in Police Administration. Uncle Sam had other ideas and I was drafted into the Army in 1968 and went to Ft. Ord (california) and Ft. Sill (Oklahoma) for basic training. I was trained in artillery and was sent to Vietnam in 1969. I was made a forward observer and never fired an artillery round in Vietnam--that's the Army for you! I got an early discharge (thank you President Nixon!) and came home Easter Sunday of 1971. I resumed college and also met my future wife on a blind date in June of 1971. Her name is Diana Masters Butcher and we were married in February of 1974. By the way, Diana is the librarian at Pomona High School! I finished Cal State LA in 1972 and decided that police work wasn't really for me. Diana and I have been married for 31 years. We have two children - Mark Daniel, born in 1977 and Audrey Jean, born in 1980. Mark graduated from culinary school and is working in LA as a chef. Audrey graduated from the University of La Verne and now works as a Production Assistant with Mark Burnett Productions (of "Survivor" fame) on the upcoming Martha Stewart Apprentice show.
We live in Pomona in a home built in 1916, in the Lincoln Park Historical District. We are active in local preservation activities. We recently bought a 2004 Torchlight Red Corvette (for our 30th wedding anniversary), have joined the Pomona Valley Corvette Association and are enjoying driving our new car around Southern California on club runs.
I am looking forward to retirement in a few years and would love to hear from my classmates. We have attended a few reunions and they have been fun--hope to see many of you at future ones!
