Audrey's Story
It has been a long journey since graduation. Unlike some of you who had a clear goal in mind early on, I did not. I was anxious to experience life. I ventured intuitively as opportunities appeared and ended. It turned out well for me and my life has always been interesting. Looking back, I can only say that I am grateful for everything that has come my way.
Before marrying and having two children, I did attend college for two years. Bored and uninspired, I joined the Domestic Peace Corps (VISTA) and worked in community organization in several cities. I then traveled in Europe for several months and lived and worked in Paris for a year. I divorced when I was 35 and, although I never re-married, I have had the same funny "significant other" for the past 30 years. We have at least one gut wrenching, tear-producing,...Expand for more
belly laugh a day.
Currently, I run a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. that specializes in outpatient substance abuse treatment. We have about 750 patients, many of whom come to our clinic daily. I plan to continue to work up until the day someone tells me I've lost it.
Traveling is one of my greatest passions in life. I prefer to plan trips myself and travel alone to maximize the adventure. My favorite trips have been to India and I still have many other places to see on my "bucket" list. Most recently, I have had wonderful adventures in Mongolia.and Sri Lanka. This year I plan to travel in Eastern Europe and participate in the week-long World Gypsy Festival in Prague.. There is nothing better than classical gypsy music.
I still manage to return to Pittsburgh at least once a year for a brief visit.
