Aurora Coon:  

After I graduated from Gadsden in 1969 I decided to attend NMSU for the 1st summer session. I went back in the fall of 1969 but someone came into my life and changed all my plans. I met Bill Coon at church one Sunday morning in 1969 and after 2 months we started dating. He asked me to marry him, so in April, 1970 we were married. Bill was stationed at Fort Bliss and he got orders to go to Germany in June, 1970. Before he was shipped out to Germany we came to West Virginia so he could tell his family goodbye. We drove from San Miguel, New Mexico to Carolina, West Virginia in 3 days. When I got to Carolina I met my in-laws and the rest of Bill's family and friends. Bill was sent to Germany in June and I flew out in July. He was stationed in Bamberg, Germany and we lived off post. I would visit the small community we lived in and LOVED it there. Bill and I also got to travel to Austria while he was stationed in Germany and what an exciting time for me. After he was discharged from the military we came back to the states and lived in West Virginia for awhile but since Bill loved New Mexico so much we moved back. Bill was in the Army from May, 1968 until February, 1972. I can't believe we have been married for 42 years.
