Debra's Story
Life
Since graduation, I attended and graduated from BYU, waited my dear husband, Leonard on his church mission in Venezuela, while I spent a semester abroad in Madrid. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple, UT on June 8, 1979. We completed our schooling and relocated to Concord, CA. I commuted to San Francisco as a word processor on a 12 hour/3 day work schedule. It took five years to conceive (Breanna, 19) because of stress, then it only took two and half to be blessed with Carlyn (16 1/2). Meanwhile, I'd transfered to the Oakland office. Then, December 12, 1989, I contracted encephelatis (a strain of menigitis, which went into my brain). I was a coma for 2 1/2 weeks, surgical ward for two months, six week rehab in Vallego, CA and two months out-patient basis....Expand for more
At least, one family member stayed with me during my sojourn in rehab and our church ward people were there to support me in my trials. I had to relearn everything: walking, talking, eating, writing with my left hand and forth. It happened, period, however, I get up every morning with a positive and perseverance attitude. I face frustrations daily, but my determined personality doesn't allow the words "depressed and discouragement" enter in! The most difficult test is that I'm not able to drive anymore, though, I walk everywhere and am in terrific shape. My whole right side was affected, especially, my right hand is like a stroke, so simple tasks: earrings; zippers; hose; slicing, etc. In November 2003, I had a hysterectomy performed due to uterine prolapse and in
