Gary's Story
I was a member of the class of 62 my sophmore and junior years. Unfortunately, I was unable to stay and graduate--I joined the Navy when I was 17 and that led to a twenty year career where I advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, doing three tours of duty in Vietnam. Got to see the world and eventually retired in 1980. My second career was in Health Care where I was a Department Head at a Hospital System in South Carolina (Risk Manager, Safety, Emergency Preparedness, etc.) I was also elected to the position of Vice President of the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety and served in that capacity from 1996 to 2000. I retired from health care in 2006 and now enjoy time with my wife, two cats, and one dog. We live in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina (a quiet little drinking village with a fish...Expand for more

My wife and I visited Stockton in 1997.
It was my first time back in over 40 years. Amazingly, we drove right to Franklin High and I was so surprised that it looked the same (except for the security fencing). The rest of Stockton blew my mind--so many changes to the town I ran around when I was a kid. The waterfront area, Hotel Stockton and the Courthouse were very, very nice. I can remember when that area was skid row. Used to get my hair cut at the barber college there.
South Carolina has been very good to us since I left the Navy. I have always envied those who came from a strong family--and have ties to their hometown. Such was not my case but overall life has been very good to us.
