Barb's Life
I've been happily married to Les Salisbury since Dec. 11, 1977; we met and married in Arizona. Our daughter Holly was born there in 1979; my stepson, John, is 6 years older.
We moved to California in 1981 and Les and I enjoyed living in Huntington Beach for 25 years. "Surf City" was a terrific place to live and raise our family. Les is a financial consultant. I taught Kindergarten and the Music Program in a Christian School for 10 years. I quit teaching when Holly entered High School. Over time we began vacationing in the Hawaiian Islands for about 17 years and developed a particular love for Kauai and The Big Island.
After 25 years in the financial business and 2 years of planning, we accepted an amazing business opportunity for Les on the Big Island of Hawaii. We pulled up roots and moved to Kona on November 1, 2005, along with our sweet pug, Emily. We have since added three more pugs to the pack -- Buddy, Barney, and Bogey. They are sweet dogs and offer us hours of pleasure! Kona is everything we hoped it would be, and more.

Leaving our sweet daughter, a fantastic church, and loads of dear friends was tearful, but not for long. We joined a great church, have made many friends, and are blessed to serve as the ministry leaders for Celebrate Recovery; a Christ centered 12 step ministry.
Holly missed her parents and joined us in 2009. We make trips to the mainland and continue to enjoy visits with many friends vacationing in the islands; they either come here or we join them for part of their vacations on other islands ... such fun!
Moving to Hawaii ...Expand for more
has been the best thing we could have done at this season of our lives, and what an amazing adventure it continues to be! The Big Island is so diverse, we love tropical living, and have been warmly welcomed into the hearts and lives of the local community.
Holly lives with us in Holualoa, Hawaii, above the town of Kailua Kona. Sadly, she has developed serious health issues. Two years ago she and I spent five weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale where she was diagnosed with a very rare, incurable genetic disorder that is almost never seen in the United States; Variegate Porphyria. It has been heartbreaking to watch our precious, vibrant, previously healthy daughter's life turned upside down. She is no longer able to work or drive; she faces frequent hospitalizations, and suffers constantly. We are grateful to have her with us and to be able to offer as much help as possible.
My stepson, graduated from ASU with a BA in Theater and teaches Yoga ... he lives in Scottsdale with his wife, Nicole. Their adorable son Ryder, our first grandchild, was born in June, 2013. We are so excited to finally be grandparents and are over the moon, in love with him! It is hard to live so far away from him, however due to Holly's illness we return to the Scottsdale Mayo twice a year which allows us to see family and MVHS friends!
In spite of lifeâs challenges we praise God for His infinite goodness in our daily lives. If you get the chance to visit Kona, please let us know. We would love to meet you for a meal and the opportunity to reconnect and hear what is happening in your life.
