Barbara Brashier:

CLASS OF 1952
Memphis, TN

Barbara's Story

The following month after we graduated, in fact THE VERY NEXT MONTH, on June 7, 1952, I married my high school sweetheart of 4 years, Morris Brashier, who graduated from Bartlett, in 1949. He was in the Marine Corps, stationed in Miami, Florida, so we lived there for 4 years, then moved back to Memphis, when he got discharged. Bought our 1st home, close to Kingsbury Grammer & High Schools, had 2 sons, who both, went all the way through Kingsbury, from 1st through 12th grades. We had a wonderful and Blessed marriage for 52 years, after which he passed away, with cancer, in 2004. He had NEVER smoked in his life, but ended up dying from Lung cancer! Breathed second-hand smoke all through the years that he worked around folks who did smoke! Because of him, I NEVER smoked, either! I have only run into qne guy who graduated with us, Bob Hadaway, whose Mother lives close to me. Have talked, by phone, to Charlie Perkins, a couple of years ago., but no one else I can think of. If you remember Alvin Jackson, who graduated in 1949 and played on the basketball team, he & his wife, Joyce used to live several doors down from me, but a few months ago, they moved into a new home in Bartlett. A few months after that, Alvin passed away, after several years of sickness. I'll always remember going to the drugstore on Macon Rd. close to Leawood Baptist Church, EACH afternoon, after school, along with my boyfriend/future husband, to have one of their delicious milkshakes at the soda fountain. There were ALWAYS several other Treadwell & Bartlett kids there! I always wanted to be a wife & mother when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a wrong idea. As it turns out, THEY were wrong!! Now, I am the GRANDMOTHER OF 6 Grandchildren, 5 boys and 1 girl) and HAVE 2 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, thanks to my granddaughter, Kristy(29 years old)Elijah, who is 4 and Kinsey, who is 11 months old and live in Ripley, MS. My 5 grandsons ALL still live here in Memphis and only 1 of them is married. Their ages range from 29 years down to 16 years and are ALL very special to me! God has truly blessed me! !PS. I told you my Granddaughter's name, so now I will name my 5 Grandsons.........Adam Brashier(age 2...Expand for more
8) and a "chef/waiter" At the "Macaroni Grill", on Poplar and dating a very sweet girl, by the name of Brooke; next is Danny Brashier,(age 28)and a student at Mid-America Semenary, in Cordova. He's already the "Youth Pastor" at Leawood Baptist Church on Homer at Macon Rd. and married to a sweet, wonderful & talented Christian girl, Rebekka. Next comes Michael Brashier, (age 26), a senior at the University of Memphis and will graduate in December, with a dream of his, to be on the Bartlett, or Memphis, Fire Department; Nicholas("Nick")Brashier(age 18), who is a freshman at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN and plans on going into all phases of television. He's on the television staff of MTSU, and learning ALL that's connected with the field of television. Last, but not least, is Seth Brashier(age 16). He plays clarinet in the Houston High Marching Band in Germantown. Will be getting his driver's liscence, soon, and about the girls, he's just 'playing the field'! Oh yes, I told you my granddaughter's name, but, also, she is married to theYouth Pastor of First Baptist Church/Ripley, MS, Larry("Chunk")Tubb. They met at Blue Mountain College, where they, both, graduated from. Larry also graduated from semenary in Ft. Worth, TX then God brought him back this way, closer to our side of the family and his side, to Pastor at First Baptist Church/Ripley, MS. My granddaughter, Kristy, teaches 'Science' at Ripley High School. Kristy, Larry, Elijah and Kinsey had a foriegn exchange student, Tom(18), a wonderful sweet, young man, living with them for 2 years. Tom recently went back home to "Kroatia", in May, after his 'tour' was up. We all will miss him, terribly, because he was like another member of our family, and like another grandson to me! Sorry to have taken up so much time, bragging about my family, but, hey, that's what we're supposed to do! Also, I failed to mention something about my precious, late husband, other than his being the most wonderful husband, any girl could wish for, he retired, in 1988, after 35 years, with the U.S. Postal Service here in Memphis, where he was a supervisor. THANK YOU, GOD, FOR MY FAMILY and what they ALL mean to me!!! Barbara(Beall)Brashier(class of '52)
