Barbara's Story

High School seems A LONG TIME AGO! Thank God we continue to grow and learn! I don't remember many people from the days of Southport. But, I do remember some great teachers that helped me through a lonely time as an awkward teenager. My father was killed in a plane crash several years before we moved to Indy. I do remember that, for the most part, my peers were warm and friendly people. I was angry, lonely, frightened and felt totally out of place and struggled to concentrate with all of the life issues. College tamed some of this feeling and life did the rest. It's just life and these experiences and your reactions create YOU. From DePauw University, I just had to marry the one, very bright and wonderful young man that would put up with me while I grew up...still haven't and after 32 years, he's still putting up with me:-) I continued to advanced education at Butler University after my BA in English from DePauw. I excelled in retail starting as a buyer at L.S. Ayres in Indianoplace. I continued to excel, and I was very driven and focused (unlike high school). I became a senior exec. in merchandising at Ayres and went on to Chicago as the first woman directo...Expand for more
r at Montgomery Wards in 1988 as national merchandise manager of Home Furnishings. I began traveling the world developing products, managing merchandising and marketing and logistics, yes, logistics, for my division's 700 million$$ business. My career continued to advance and, I can tell you some stories you wouldn't believe! One thing lead to another (Bombay and other stores and consulting for the likes of Crate and Pottery Barn and served on several boards) and I landed with a corporation in Cleveland, OH. I cashed out of my contract about 8 years ago and invested in my own business. I now own Cleveland's finer dinnerware/gift ware business located in Historic Little Italy. I love my freedom, a life of learning from the best and traveling the world and a healthy perspective on life, love of family and the strength to persevere. My husband and I are very involved in the Arts, particularly Opera. Our son is our greatest accomplishment working in NYC as a leading marketing guru. If you are ever in Cleveland for fun or business, please contact me and stop for a glass of wine at our store:-) Take a look at the store's site...labellavitacleveland.com Ciao Bella
