Life
Graduated 1970 w BA from Douglass in German..worked at Rutgers for a bit..did off and on Grad work... and decided to teach...for the past 35 years been teaching in Toms River NJ...not German or French but English...American and World Lit...Love my job...married ...4 children ..youngest 23...oldest and only daughter 33. My kids have taught me mainly that you cannot control other people...all you can control is yourself and love the others.
...gathered white hair and lots of smiles...and lots of fine memories of hundreds of high school kids. Some of them are responsible for at least some of the white hair! In the last 35 years I have managed to teach every grade from 8 to 12.It is amazing to see the kids grow! I now have students who are children of former students so i feel like a family heir...Expand for more
loom.
Inspiration for me comes largely from my great aunts...hardworking ,decent, giving people who knew how to laugh and cry and when each was enough.
The biggest surprise I have had is that I never expected to marry and be loved, never expected to be good at anything , and never expected to love a career.
If I won $100 million, I'd give 50 million of it to help people, including my kids, then spend the rest on staring my own school, writing a meaningful curriculum and publishing it.
I retired in June 2010-with much regret but I just do not like what is happening to schools now- seems to be all about the test and not about the experience and love of knowing things. They just don't want what I am selling anymore.Since,I have beeen painting and making things and catching up on 37 years of sleep dep!
