Barbara's Story
I've been married to Dave Smoot for 48 years, together 52! We've lived in San Mateo, CA for 45 years. We have two daughters, Lauren (41) who is married (Steve) and has two sons, 14 year old Anthony and 10 year old Jackson. Our youngest, Shannon (35) is engaged to her partner Lace.
I worked part-time for our church/day school for 24 years as a Teacher's Aide and Admin. Assistant retiring in June of 2019. I've always loved working with children and regret that I did not pursue a career in teaching. But, at least I had the best situation, I was able to work with kids and didn't have the headache of preparing lessons every day. I currently volunteer for the Reading Buddies pro...Expand for more
gram at the San Mateo Library and hope to start a Sing-a-long program in the spring of 2022.
I still enjoy singing (mostly with my church choir). I occasionally sing for weddings and memorials, more of the latter these days. I was honored to sing the National Anthem at two sporting events.
I love to travel and finally returned to Germany with Dave (last time was with Show Troupe in 1970) twice. We've traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, Mexico, British Columbia, Austria, Italy, Ireland and Scotland. Our favorite local getaways are to Carmel and Lake Tahoe. Hope to travel with the whole family to Hawaii to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2023..
