Barbara's Story

Contrary to what Classmates has me listed at, I am not a new member to Classmates. I have been a fully qualified member for at least 20 years, I just had to change my e-mail address when Verizon sold out to Frontier and Frontier blocked my live.com address. Frontier finally got every thing straight and we are getting along fine. Here is a brife update for those who are new to Classmates. Schools: Rio Linda Elementary School, Rio Linda Jr. High School, Highlands High School, Sierra College and California State University at Sacramento. Work: 8 years as School Bus Driver, 16 years as Transportation Dispatcher, and Temporary Director of Transportation for the former Grant Joint Union High School District. Soon after I submitted my resignation as Director to prepare to move out of state. Married to David C. Robison, a GJUHS Police Officer and when we decided to semi retire we moved to his home state of West Virginia in 1989. We have had a busy life here in Grafton WV. We are both Life Members of the Grafton Fire Department, Dave as Firefigter and Traffic Officer. Barbara as Firefighter, Secretary, Treasurer and Vidio Photograher. Dave still does some traffic control and Barbara has become evidence photographer for the Fire Department and more often for the Grafton Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff's Department, and the WV State Police. In 1994, Dave joined the Memorial City VFW Post #3081 and is a Life Member. He also joined the Taylor County Honor Guard. He has served 1 year as Post Commander and has participated in over 3,000 Military Funerals and Patriotic events...Expand for more
. Soon after, Barbara joined the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post #3081 that is now the WVW Auxiliary. She has served a many chairman of most Auxiliary programs, and as President, She served as Auxiliary President for 13 years. She also went on to Serve as District Treasurer and President each for 1 year before being recruited to the State level. At the state level she was Chairman of Community Service, Youth, Americanism and Membership. In 2008 she started servinbg offices at the State Level as Guard, Conductress, Chaplain, Jr Vice President, Sr. Vice President and as the 2013-2014 State President. We have a big old house on 1 1/2 acres with the Tygart Valley River at the edge of our property. The house was built in 1900 and we bought in 1988. It was completely modernized in the 70's and is now showing signs of it's age and in January 2015 we began several update repairs and changes, Also living in the house are Barbara's mother, Leota Halsey who came to live with us after she sold her house in North Highlands. Also living with us are cats Pookie, Spike, Callie, Casper, Max, Augie, Chrissy, & Gracie. We also have a Chocolate Lab Retriever Stormy and a tiny 12 lb. mixed breed Lulu. All are rescues that come with a variety of stories as to how they came to live with us. Am looking forward to reconnecting with classmates that were lost with the former e-mail blockage and am looking forward to making some new contacts along the way, too. I check in with the Highlands Facebook page every now and then, but see no names I remember. Barbara (Halsey) Robison
